After a long break-in period of approximately 20 hours (new out of the box sound the Speaker hideous!) Shows the box at my upscale facility (Akai AM 95 amplifier, CD 75 Akai with corresponding D / A converters) a fresh and very low-distortion sound image over all frequency ranges in the upper layers into Bass remains clear and dynamic. The speaker also tolerate considerable level jumps and bring Triangle as pleasant to the ear as kicks on a bass drum. With no musical direction of these speakers is a nuisance, what my impression is especially the slim, but distortion-free bass debt. The boxes sound way, not "thin", but go well even with dynamic music. Visible on the frequency response Registered manufacturer violent elevation of the bass from 100 to 250 Hz, I could not understand aurally.
Compared to my DIY boxes (Transmission Line with 25 cm bass, the legendary Isophon midrange PSM 120 of the equally legendary Quadral boxes (Titan) and a metal dome-80s), the DC sound 590 as still expects good. However, it lacks a direct comparison of translucent deep bass, the mids sound a bit harder and especially allows the spatial representation both in comparison as well as for my other audio impressions with other boxes much to be desired. But that's almost a matter of taste and whining at a high level. Compare speaker would be new and to locate the pair at the store at about 3,000 EUR and how strong must map a box in space, also of preferences of the listener and the designer depends. As the only speaker the Canton DC 509 would be me too weak in the three-dimensional representation; I like with closed eyes a proper stage with instruments locatable in front of me. Keep I will anyway, because the Speaker listen to good and never nervous; They are therefore ideal for a study or second stereo system. The shortcomings of conventional single speaker (aufgedickter bass, dirty mid representation, lack of coarse dynamics) are not present here. The DC 509 were filed in tests for law in the highest class.
A word processing and optics: The view of the metal membranes is not at all my case (shiny and motzig). The cover (which can be conveniently attached to the back) solves this problem. The front consists of a glossy film on MDF, the corpus is foiled with Ash veneer. The surfaces are therefore quite sensitive. The speakers should be moved as little as possible and do not tolerate cats or removals. Vibrations of the housing boxes are hardly noticeable, which speaks for the good workmanship inside.
