Appearance:
Now about taste can be argued, I personally find the black / white look just on the desk much more appealing than any gray box. The case itself is made of plastic, which I see no disadvantage compared to metal, it is meticulously crafted and looks solid as a unit. Only the weight of the patch cord is noticeable, as the appliance is at the rear edge of the desk and the cables run all down. This makes it forward slightly lifted, but another device on top solves the problem.
The LEDs show the most important information to, 1x Power, 8x LAN, where green = 1Gbps, yellow = 10/100 Mbps and flashing = Activity symbolizes.

Technology:
I am particularly pleased a small power supply that fits neatly into the power strip to the size of a current mobile phone charger, without even blocking other outlets.
The device does not have a fan, but is also in operation at most lukewarm and should (not measured itself) through low power consumption are characteristic for.

Function:
As one would expect, properly connected card with the appropriate speed are detected. OnBoard network cards in desktop computers function just as much as notebooks with a gigabit interface. Is used here the existing Cat5e - wiring that connects for a couple of years here several devices together. Only a NAS system, I could not test, because this investment is present only in the near future. Because of past experience, however, I'm expecting to achieve full gigabit operating there.
The transfer rates are in the desired range, a 7 GB video file is just under 60 MB / s from the desktop to notebook copies (they are slowed rather slow notebook hard drive), in the reverse direction to reach so sometimes even 80-90 MB / s.
Further tests are (with the NAS system) follow.

Conclusion:
Who expanding an existing network, or set up a new will, thereby placing value on rapid transmission, which should strike here. 8 Gigabit - connections for home users more than enough, who has more of a distributed architecture, might prefer to buy 2x the 5-port version.
The price is unbeatable for the resulting performance.
