I like that well at the Westcott cutting mat: For my needs, for small crafts and cutting work, the mat is just the right size. I can even use my A4 folders in my craft papers, with stow (I put this in a document envelope with perforated strip), so I'm always ready. For cutting of fabric, such as patchwork, it is my opinion, however, too small. But there is the mat in different sizes, so that everyone will surely find the ideal format for his own purposes. The cutting mat is reversible. She has on one side a grid in cm, on the back of a box grid in inches and for comparing a measuring strip with the centimeter values. Especially with stamp templates only the inch dimensions are often given so that you can work well with American craft instructions here also. Again, different angles (45 °, 90 °, 60 °) recorded, for hobbyists therefore the ideal information. Cutter, knives or rotary cutters are not as fast as with blunt cutting surfaces made of other materials.
What I love about the cutting mat not like so much: The mat is promoted as a "self-healing". I have been around for years a cutting mat of this type (different brand) in use, but which is much more elastic and flexible than the Westcott. Therefore, the cuts really immediately pull back together, and the mat also looks after all these years still good, although quite a lot has been cut out. In the new cutting mat, the material is harder. Although the core of the mat is cut resistant, but the superficial cuts remain visible. They probably will not be as durable in extensive use as my old model. The cutting mat has a penetrating plastic odor which did not improve even after a few days in the fresh air. When working has permanently the smell in the nose, which I find unpleasant. Compared to my old cutting mat will cost the Westcott almost double, so I the price for money find here not very good.
