In a world where "Harry Potter" fantasy Travel books and cinema records do, because the mysterious music of "Dead Can Dance" for many is welcome. The album is chronologically between Aion and Within the Realms of a Dying Sun. It has medieval elements-associations of the former and the quiet atmosphere (but not so gloomy) as "Within the ..."). Some tracks are of a kind church Norgen accompanied (The Host of Seraphim) and "Severance" one of the best tracks of the duo at all and a vocal magic moment of Brendan Perry. In these two pieces, the atmosphere is very relaxed and seriously, on the radio one could believe that it was a church service broadcast of a distant country on a holiday also unknowingly. The same is true of my listening for "Orbis de Ignis' that like some sort of trumped Gregorian chant sounds (only singing and sometimes a bell that could be heard on Aion. "The Writing of My Fathers Hand" is a beautiful ballad of Lisa Gerrard and sounds almost unearthly beautiful. Almost too beautiful to audition a guest for my taste or to the one who does not know the group. Similarly, "almost too good to be true" sound of the vocal track "Song of Sophia". "Mother Tongue" has a monotonous percussion background, a string accompaniment and Lisa's voice. However, the percussion is not as bombastic Wagner default as to "Spleen and Ideal" "Ulysses" worn by Perry's voice has Harpsichord / string elements that structure themselves rhythmically. Despite the many reviews there is no listener seems to dare to analyze the music of "Dead Can Dance" closer. Terms like "celtic" or "Germanic" (what is that?), Gothic (just as a rubber word which can be interpreted much), medieval (real or associative). The group has (had) really a perfect image: For their recordings they ran a lot of time, perfectly produced. Although from the "gothic" scene of goths coming (?) Speaks their world music to many people, the sales are expected the show. Dead Can Dance is the only group where I've never read a very negative review, their aura and charisma is so sublime that one would find their own criticisms of the musicians almost as sacred blasphemy, what also I will not do. Only in so far that the CD I only give 4 stars instead of 5. It annoys me a little that most "normal" CDs of the group are only about 35 minutes, even this. Brendan / Lisa forgive myself this criticism! The CD covers are so sparsely designed to turn analysis and allow for your own imagination run. It is believed in an ethnology museum offset with photographs of ancient cult Gege stalls as masks, without of course to name the country and the place of origin. In any case the covers seem so meaningful and profound designed so that the objects could be about the importance and looking at the center of "Indiana Jones" film. As the group has just made it to procure such an image / Aura? Really fascinating and enviable. Has the group Rhytmusstrukturen, only devised the strange language in the female vocals and the English-speaking mystic texts of Perry (like Harry Potter) or is it a clever Essence Music archaeological study of the couple? No one will probably solve this mystery, perhaps a researcher in the 4th millennium that builds on a new movement and theory? This CD is absolutely anschaffenswert, one of the best of "Dead Can Dance", a bit worn and quiet as most others. When it is once Perry excludes similar already the solo albums of Lisa Gerrard in some tracks.
