Prehistory (can be skipped):
Previously, I had a Raspberry Model B + with 512MB Ram
As software I had XBMC (Kodi later) run under Xbian.
Although the developers of XBian much trouble, I was never really happy because for updates occurred constantly new bugs.
So I'm about to give the new Rasp 2, on Kodi switched to test this under OpenELEC. Everything was first stable, but the old Rasp was naturally just as slow as before.
After 5 days of extensive testing I have collected the following impressions:
The speed comparison:
On the new RaspPi I installed Kodi under OpenELEC (5.0.5).
My music database, consisting of about 1000 albums, 2000 artists and 13000 songs I have imported. On new Rasp I have again the same USB hard drive depend as before on the old. This is my music library.
On the dedicated installation I will not go into in detail, because it's all about the speed of growth here.
My old RaspPi was operated in Overclock Mode 840 / 900MHz respectively.
The new one was in the delivery status (ie unchanged) operated.
Since the new Rasp has a dynamic overclocking, he ran mostly at (only) 600 MHz.
Only when the processor performance more than 50% goes, he turns on the 900 MHz, but this almost never happened.
Both RaspPi's I've run under the default skin "Confluence".
Both both the Weather app, as well as the RSS reader were activated.
Now for my results:
-Boat Old RaspPi about 48 sec
-Boat New RaspPi about 23 sec
-Open the artist list old RaspPi about 16 sec
sec -Open the artist list of new RaspPi about 4
-Activate Party Mode old Raspi about 15 sec
sec -Activate Party Mode new Raspi about 4
-Backup Old RaspPi 10 minutes
-Backup New RaspPi about 1 minute
In addition to these figures alone I would also like to address how to operate with the new Rasp unlike the old touch.
I always turned on "Fade" between tracks (10 sec) and the screen saver is activated (after 6 minutes).
Previously I had with transitions and use the screensaver always dropouts / stuttering / jumps in the audio. The days are gone.
Also new artist-fanart is now displayed immediately when you change to a new title.
The remote control Yatse (Android) was previously before an ordeal. Now everything goes instantly, really immediately.
The old Rasp had often "swallowed" when you have to quickly enter multiple commands. He seemed like frozen-nothing was more. They did not know whether he had now hung, or if he still expected.
The times seem to be over now. Everything (long up to the above mentioned processes such as opening Performers Lists) goes directly fluffy without problems.
No audio dropouts or Fanart-delays.
The processor utilization remains at 5 - 15%!
Now it is really fun to work with the Rasp.
Chill the Rasp 2 is 5-6 times faster in most operations.
In other as remote control over Yatse, you can say the hard, since everything works immediately and Rasp thus acts much more quickly.
My old SD card, my old PSU and my old body could be (with Kuhlkörpern) used further.
What the Raspberry Foundation offers here at the same price as an evolution, is just one thing: class!
Strong buy recommendation
