It's always nice to read old comics like that and realize that he has aged pretty well. In the spirit of the films of Tarantino or Rodriguez, Preacher staged an unlikely trio of a punk vampire, aggressive and killer to pledge nana and her ex boyfriend, a reverend who does not believe in God which merged with an entity of Heaven! When we know that this small group intends to find God to ask him what prompted him to get out of Paradise and he spends his time swear, drink and beat up, we imagine the result. Especially as the Reverend Ganges sacred power by merging with the beast called Genesis: when he focuses his energy, his word is law: Everyone obeys him!
Fortunately, Garth Ennis had talent at the time and, rather than trash and provocation, it takes time to build a real story with most endearing hero than believed and used it to portray a racist and degenerate America. As for Steve Dillon, expressive and disturbing pattern perfectly suited to the story.
Finally, more history progresses, one begins affection for the characters - so this is an adult and violent comics recommended.
