The story focuses on two women, Dido and Georgia, two longtime friends who have a common passion: reading. After founding family and had a great career, they reach retirement and enjoy this well deserved rest. We also discover the daughter of Georgia, Chloe and her difficulty in meeting the ideal man or the children and grandchildren of Dido. Only life is not a bed of roses and many events will shake up their routine.
The main interest of this novel is not only friendship and love books but especially the story of life with its ups and downs. Between love, disappointment, betrayal, rescue, illness or grief, Sue Gee offers us a history of simple but touching realistic life.
Only the first part of the novel is a bit long to implement. My interest is more developed in the second half and especially about the tribulations of Chloe. Also, even if the stories of each intersect to deepen and to closely follow their daily, I found that the end was a little sloppy, too quickly given.
I still enjoyed the themes because they are integral to the lives of millions of people. Everyone can easily identify a character or knows a relative in a particular situation. Some passages are difficult but Sue Gee leads smoothly. There are also quotes from some novels that punctuate Dido and Georgia of life.
