I have long sought a card reader in 5.25 "with USB3 worthy of the name. Not easy at all. Certainly there are models 3.5" that can take place in the 3.5 "adapter to 5.25 "dirt cheap, but leaves much to take a 5.25 model" which has no final space to offer more connections. With the Icy Box IB-867 we are spoiled.
Warning: on the amazon image, we see USB3 port 2 (a blue and white!). In reality, there is only one thought left him as my web search. That's what I expected becuase the card reader works by USB3. That's what I wanted in the first place. An excellent point for this icybox IB-867.
The installation is done without difficulty: This requires two internal ports USB2, USB3 1 internal port 1 SATA port, 1 molex plug, which poses no problem for my motherboard ATX Z77-GD65.
To judge the effectiveness of this material, I delivered some tests.
- Each internal USB2 port handles 2 of the 4 USB2 ports that can be found on the front.
- Multi-card reader works well USB3 which allows for very good read rate: 42MB / s on my first test (10 scandisk class SDHC card given to 45MB / s)
- USB3 Port: 115Mo / s read and 38MB / s write (with a key USB3 lexar which is good but not at the top in terms of throughput).
Finally, a whole 5.25 "in an aesthetically successful and complete piece offering a true performer USB3 card reader, a USB3 port that is equally, 4 USB2 port reinforcing those of the case, a port e- sata and a bonus recharge port.
What more? Maybe a firewire port ... there is more than that of free on my motherboard.
