I use the UV filter of the Hoya HMC Super series on all my lenses, primarily to protect the front lens. The discussion of whether its ürsprünglichen function necessary or not, has been performed elsewhere often enough. Therefore briefly their own experiences for the 77 mm version: I use them on a Canon EF-S 10-22mm 3.5-4.5 USM (UWW for Canon Crops, incidentally Top lens). The filter is very well made by the haptics, grip and is not least because of the size "well in hand". I had first to use concerns a filter with normal height for ultra-wide angle, which has not been confirmed, because even at 10 mm focal length on normal shooting no vignetting can be seen, but this is probably because the filter ( as its smaller brothers) still is relatively flat. Only when even eg a pole / ND filter is fitted additionally, it comes with very small focal lengths (;-) relatively easy to fix by unscrewing, with larger focal lengths so damn. Reflections, or spots in the image due to uneven coating occur not unlike some inexpensive filters on (myself dearly paid). The price-performance ratio is very good for this reason. Therefore 5 stars.
