Unfortunately, the smaller of the two Adapter (TL-PA4010) was completely dead - none of the three LEDs lit up, and the unit was not even warm. There seems to be at TP-Link no final inspection before delivery. The Powerline WLAN AP (TL-WPA4220) worked, but had green LEDs. However, I have not much longer busy myself, but all directly sent back to Amazon and ordered a replacement.
It came back the same box with Version 1.1. In the pictures devices were again represented with blue LEDs.
Quick struck me that now came with a booklet with additional instructions in various languages, including German! This was definitely not the case previously. Unfortunately, however, when the German instructions forget the last page. There, the operation of the pair buttons is described, so as you enter a network and also leaves again. This site is completely missing in the German version. Such things now seem to be typical of TP-Link me. So you have to yet again have recourse to the English Quick Start Guide, which personally but poses no problem for me.
This time at least functioned both devices, but again with green LEDs - strange!
The packaging is moreover a big red "3 Years Warranty", but there is no guarantee conditions. Also nowhere explains who to contact in case of warranty. This is not at all to my knowledge, under German law permitted - so one might not sell in Germany the product, you want to risk any warning. But the only way ...
The enclosed network cables are indeed as promised quite long, but not shielded - but should normally not be a problem. For the price you can not wish shielded cable at home. The jacks on the components have at least one metal shielding, so you can use other, shielded cables if necessary. After all eight lines connected.
The interior of the device is just as disastrous as it has often been described here. I personally went terribly on the laces, the wireless AP does not have a DHCP client and so every time has a new IP address. However, we may ask, where he has come from? She seems to be randomly generated ... To make matters worse the thing in every small change needs to be rebooted, which makes it again "generates" a new IP address. Total botch.
You should download first the small Windows program "Powerline scan.exe" with TP-Link; This can be started without installation simply so. It will then automatically the TL-WPA4220 (but not the TL-PA4010!) And displays which IP address this has just devised. So you can configure their computers accordingly so that you can access the part. Until the next reboot ...
This product from TP-Link is just not thought through. Also missing important features. The ansich function I am currently very satisfied - the FRITZ! Box under the roof delivered by powerline internet access in the basement, and there is now also available Wi-Fi. The power line data can be included on the FRITZ! Box surface reading. There you can view the powerline spectrum and the profile of the speed even. You can find this information under "Home Network". If it's so first set, then it works.
I hope that the two adapters are not as fast break, how can unfortunately often read here. The design of the hardware seems to me at least to be quite a scrap; That's why even the first set was with me certainly broken. The decor is hell. But the price is cheap.
Update on 05/26/2014: I had already suspected a bad feeling, but now the feared event actually occurred: One of the two products has been (re) defective. Since last night I do not get powerline connection between the two devices anymore. But 67 days long, the set ran through properly.
There was last night no abnormalities, especially no thunderstorm or the like. It struck me only to suddenly realize that the powerline connection no longer existed. Now was / is this but also no longer produce. Each of the two devices themselves can reach me when I connect it to the computer locally. Among themselves, however, the two devices via the mains can no longer find. At least one of the two powerline modems must be broke down yesterday so.
This leads me naturally a new conclusion: The first set already defective upon delivery, defective the second set after 67 days. I'm sorry, but these products are for me just China scrap. I will now try again with the support and otherwise complain about Amazon ... And then I buy reasonable Powerline Hardware - unfortunately to be much higher price. With TP-Link I for one am definitely through.
