The New Ecological Order - the tree, the animal and man (Paperback)

Customer Review

The central argument of this book was described by an English writer (Simon Schama: "Landscape and Memory") of "obscene syllogism." Ferry attaches indeed to amalgamate ecological thinking with Nazism and anti-humanism: environmentalists defend the animals and a ecocentrism, the Nazis also loved animals, so environmentalists are (potentially yes, but still) the Nazis. The political aim of Ferry, very clear, is revealed in the end. This is to prohibit any political ecology "policy, ecology will not be democratic, democratic, he must renounce the mirage of high politics" (Ferry p 216). Why refusal so radical? Because the whole ecology that wants political project is doomed to barbarism, while "democratic ecology" by choosing to be "humanist", a program can only be complementary theme of decent Political Party ( that is to say, center right, because you have to read all the hatred Ferry develops against the left, the "leftism" in this book).
It is a pity that such Sophists (how to call that hides partisan intentions under beautiful arguments?) Still dominates the French intellectual scene: This ideological book has received several literary awards, he intellectually insulting Michel Serres (though him a true philosopher creative that will remain in French philosophy), he helped to move away from all world philosophical debate on ecology (the major book of Norwegian philosopher Arne Naess has just been translated into French twenty years after its publication " Ecology, Community and Lifestyle, "MF Editions), it reduces to the distinction humanism Nature-Culture graduating class (thereby insulting as Kantianism which claims to Ferry, and yet developed a deep effort to think the articulation of freedom with the internal finality of nature: see the second part of the Critique of the Faculty of Judging).
In short, this book is to read that as an example caricature of Parisian mainstream thinking right. For those who want to reflect the philosophical ecology, go read "The Natural Contract" by Michel Serres, or "Politics of Nature" Bruno Latour, and I challenge you to find a single line neo-Nazi or anti-humanist. You will see through against a great deepening of this humanism is needed, off center, expanded, generous, complex, building relationships with our new global human condition, that Noah finally back on the boat ...
