25 years ago, Richard Page had with Mr. Mister itself at the top of the charts. "Broken Wings" and "Kyrie" are high on the playlists of radio stations around the globe today. The world has changed, MP3 has revolutionized the market. Meanwhile, a lot of bands and artists earn their living with gigs, CDs are needed but no longer profitable. Richard Page, too, is back on tour, currently with the Ringo Starr All Star Band. An annually changing, diced rag combo, in which each musician his hits - partly "from Way Back When" brings in the luggage.
Richard Page was a sought-after session musician and songwriter even before Mr. Mister. "I was lucky, you met someone and it ended in recordings with the best musicians of the Los Angeles scene". Pages career began as a singer Al Jarreau and Kenny Loggins, led through David Foster, Chaka Khan and Barbra Streisand. Mid-80s, he was asked by Toto and Chicago, if he wanted to take on the job of lead singer, but then began to climb just Mr. Mister the success ladder. Early 90s was over the nightmare. Many record companies had their bands the previously celebrated great successes fall, the last studio album of Mr. Mister "pull" was never published. Richard Page disappeared from the limelight. Soon blazed it on again when he in 1995 his first solo album "Shelter me" published.
For 15 years, his fans waited in vain for a CD until in May 2010, the info that "Peculiar life" should be released in July, the staggered West Coast scene in enthusiasm.
Even the Youtube Appetizer "Brand New Day" promised West Coast Pop is at best and really, the album has everything I hoped for. Catchy, polyphonic choruses, Uptempos alternate with emotionsgelandenen ballads and especially climbs Richard's voice still easily the upper regions. "Brand New Day" is the quality of the album. Pages compositions and arrangements have not lost any of their brilliance, the crisp sound is Elliot Scheiner (Sting, Dream Theater, Toto, Steely Dan, ...). The LA Cats Richard Gibbs, Vinnie Colaiuta, Luis Conte, James Harrah and Kevin McCormick complete Pages studio band.
"Peculiar Life" takes us on a journey through the material and spiritual world of Richard Page. The first notes of opener "A kiss on the wind", the instrumentation, the charming chorus, a feeling as if you were sitting in the recordings in Malibu on the couch next to it. Without sound gimmicks, close, authentic.
"You are mine" is acoustic, emotionally: "We all need inspiration, a spark ignites did, something deep inside the soul, a masterpiece That Defines a life, and you are mine"
The next track "Wordly thing" Richard wrote with Steve George, his colleagues from Mr. Mister days. The song is grooving with a strong shot Steely Dan, a "Earcatcher".
"No tomorrow" grooves in the reggae rhythm, a relaxed schrammelnde Uku in the background, written with Richard Marx. It is thought to lie in Malibu near Richards house "Little Dume Beach". The Pacific in mind, it smells of the sea.
A gentle, intense duet is "Peace of my mind". Richard sings and harmonizes with daughter Aja. Starting with a lonely piano, are joined by little steel guitar, organ and acoustic guitar. "I just want to bet he one you understand, doing whatever I can in your world, Fame's not what I'm after, it's love and laughter, did show me who I really am."
"After Mr. Mister, it was important to me in my family, and to be at home. I composed songs for Leona Lewis, 2Pac, Naturally 7 and sang with Hall and Oates or American superstar Josh Groban."
The 2010 tour with Ringo's All Star Band, the New York gig on the 70th birthday of Ringo Starr brought Richard Page back in the music gazettes and concert reviews. Paul McCartney rocked with Ringo and his All Star Band a furious "Happy Birthday". The finale was hardly more space on stage. Guests like Joe Walsh (Eagles), Angus Young (AC / DC), Jon Bon Jovi, Mick Jones (Foreigner) and Jeff Lynne (Electric Light Orchestra) celebrated "With a little help from my friends".
Richard seems to want the ceiling of his self-imposed "exile" reveal something. Even Mr. Misters last unreleased album "Pull" will be released finally. "If necessary, I sell it on my own" Little Dume Recordings' label. "Peculiar Life" will hopefully benefit from the increased public interest in Richard Page. The songs are simply too good to unheard to disappear in the vast expanses of the network.
