Rita Coolidge is an extremely versatile singer, known for her collaboration with Kris Kristofferson, with whom she was married for some time, Leon Russell, Joe Cocker (while on the legendary Mad Dogs And Englishmen-tour). Many well-known standards of country, pop, blues she has reclaimed her impressive voice new pages. On this album Rita shows another - and to me at least - new page of their skills with the interpretation of jazz standards. The pieces on this disc are all very ballad-like interpreted and instrumented sparingly-artful, in the framework of piano, bass, drums - and even Rita gets under the skin voice which partly looks almost like a saxophone.. If you want to make comparisons, that's a bit like Norah Jones and / or Diana Krall, which in my opinion Rita Coolidge is the more expressive singer by far. An absolute recommendation for all lovers of quiet, soulful jazz ballads.
