To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed. A very prestigious bottle with glued basket pattern, a beautifully designed cardboard to real cork and a fascinating color let me just unpack your mouth water converge. The smell then is just as promising - very fragrant. After the first sip will come but unfortunately a certain, minimal disillusionment.
Certainly this is an excellent rum, its price determined value. If you like Sweet as the only criterion for quality rums, is fully satisfied here. There's virtually no bitter flavor or the like present - a slight sharpness on the palate at departure is the only thing one remembered that here we have 40% alcohol in the mouth. A very round, fine feeling.
Perhaps my disappointment is that I have this rum tasted relatively quickly for "Appleton Estate Extra 12 years". Against this fantastic Jamaican Rum each other can only lose. During Appleton's exciting, complex and spicy, the Zacapa 23 is just only sweet and has relatively little individual character.
Ultimately, it depends therefore on what you'd expect as a connoisseur of rum. If you want to an extremely round, sweet and to the effect perfected taste experience, so you pick up the Zacapa 23 - a rum that can convince definitely and we must proffer no remorse friends and colleagues - or can drink a spicy cigar as a counterpoint. He's certainly well in rum cocktails that call for a strong sweet rum.
However, if you want to be surprised and want to taste more flavors, there are other rums that provide this much cheaper and simultaneously better.
