Western Digital released a patch for its RED Drive EFRX following numerous problems of very high loading cycles. In addition, WD recently released their latest version of their techno "NASware" the "NASware 2.0" further reducing the access time (among others). And passing the access time of 20ms to 16ms.
RED disc are guaranteed for 3 years against two years for the Greens.
With online shopping, you can not know if the discs are purchased "old" version or "new" generation.
ALL I contacted Amazon Market Place vendors selling these discs and no (8 respondents) were able to give me this certainty.
Unable to wait, I have taken the plunge and ordered 4 3 TB drives.
I received the 4 discs individually wrapped with plastic protection to avoid walking in the carton.
The four discs are 80.00A80 68EUZN0 series firmware and had all of the new technology "NASware 2.0".
thus, the 4 discs are current, no problem firmware and ready for my Synology DS414 NAS.
Silent and no defective sectors and prepare as tested using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics (during 14h each disk)
My order of March 20, 2014 contained WD 30EFRX disc manufacturing in February 2014.
