Over the past 11 years, I could call my own 15 cameras. Starting with a 3MP camera Tchibo and various other compact cameras, to the Canon 5D Mark 2 or 3. So I imagine that I have a certain experience. After seeing the benefits of Canon 5D Mark enjoyed some 2/3 years, I was eventually realized that it makes as an amateur no "meaning" constantly lugging a huge and heavy equipment. When all hand luggage goes flutes on vacation already for camera technology, then do you already worrying. As a second camera, it had to at some point be the Fuji X100. Shortly thereafter, the Fuji X-Pro1 came into play and was relatively quickly then realized that this was the way for the future. Without further ado, the entire Canon equipment has been sold.
This brings us already to the benefits of the whole Fuji-X system. Reduced size / weight to a minimum and quality as they are known only by a good DSLR with good lenses.
A long time I was completely satisfied with the X-Pro1 and actually there was no real reason to switch. I thought so, until I was able to try out the X-T1 at the dealer I trust. Taken in hand, led to his eye and knew immediately - I'm home! The Fuji cameras are simply a lot more like just specifications. I had cameras of almost all major manufacturers (Canon, Sony, Nikon, Panasonic, Fuji) and no cameras make such a pleasure to Shoot like the Fuji models. The x100 then had some very annoying drawbacks, but I made her some pictures. The X-Pro1 was lame at the beginning without end and not here and there yet mature, but that one forgets easily when you have captured moments where else the large DSLR had not unpacked and would a compact camera simply not come.
But before again everyone thinks "Can he tell something useful and / or the pay of Fuji" ...
Two reasons were then but now for a change to the X-T1. When I bought the X-Pro1, as I was not wearing glasses. When I was there then, because I realized very quickly that the viewfinder is simply not suitable for eyeglass wearers. Just too small and to see the complete picture. This is achieved very much better in the X-T1. In addition, you can display the viewfinder image in the viewfinder in two sizes. Even the smaller figure is more than adequate and the wearer is really the complete picture. The second reason is the auto focus. Was several firmware updates in the X-Pro1 even much better, but the X-T1 is again noticeably faster and more secure. These were both things that just in the X-Pro1 bothered me and that are now resolved.
Major enhancements to the X-Pro1 for me were in total
- Viewfinder
- Autofocus
- Housing / processing: Protected against dust and splashing water; better feel, because better handle / hand well; absolutely solid construction
- Wifi
- Display: Finally a folding screen! Although still some believe that a folding screen "unprofessional" and unnecessary, I find it more than useful.
- Video: It's become much better, but with the video runners can now compete not Fuji camera up. Can we therefore see as advantages and disadvantages. After all, there is now a direct video button and you no longer have only through the menu.
- Handle: May I not call my own, but is as good as bought. Since I shoot quite a few portraits which is a must for me, more or less. With more than 200 euros but this is quite expensive!
- Flash: Yes well here are the ghosts. Canon dispensed with its full frame cameras have liked on the internal flash. Should probably again act professional, but simply makes no sense. Fuji installed no flash in the X-T1-housing, but provides a small compact flash with. I find great, because that is really very small, does not need batteries and is so high on the camera that he hopefully casts no shadow even with larger lenses. More like a fill flash it is not of course, but you need him äufter than you think.
- ISO: The noise performance had always been an advantage of the Fuji X-series, but the X-T1 This has been improved a bit. Especially from ISO 3200th
- Price: Yes, I also know that 1600 Euros is a lot of money for a camera with a 18-55mm, but the value for money is just great. If a video is not so important, then you just get almost anywhere else as much for as "little" money.
- Card slot: No more below, but at the side. The handle does not have to be resolved if you want remove the card.
- FN key: Many definable keys. I immediately call the Fn key plus "spot focus" is! Just awesome!
- Time lapse: not tried yet, but that will change soon. Many example "videos" are just great!
But one must be honest and therefore also some not so perfect solutions arise
- ISO dial: need this to turn a knob in the center of the wheel to be pressed and that constantly. I find that sometimes very cumbersome, if you just look through the viewfinder. In the Zeitwahlrad need to press only once to release the wheel from the A-mode. So why not also the ISO-wheel?
- 4-way buttons back: As a man, I have relatively large hands and do me some difficult to use these 4 buttons.
- USB cable: There is no USB cable included more! What does that Fuji !? But not as bad as Sony, who like to omit the charger!
- USB 2.0: In this day and age would have been nice 3.0.
Who the Fuji X-T1 is therefore recommended
- Amateur / amateur photographers: A certain knowledge should be available. Aperture, shutter speed, ISO You should be familiar. Many amateurs will reluctantly constantly edit RAW data. This will be absolutely happy with the X-T1. The various film-simulation result for all situations grandiose jpeg results. I especially recommend the camera people who like to do b / w photographs. The S / W simulation (with selectable color filters) is super. Lights and shadows can be changed / adapted at will. Who needs a Leica monochrome. ;-)
- Semi-professionals to professionals: Certainly a sports photographer will not buy X-T1 as fast, but otherwise the quality is at the highest level. The upcoming 56mm f1.2 is doing certainly make a lot of portrait photographers happy. Also studio flashes can be used and so many a professional photographer is already switched.
- Street photographer !!: Oh what a dream! The X-T1 is not as quiet as a X100s, but still so inconspicuous that hardly anyone is "harassed" feel. Who has gone before with a full frame camera through the streets, which is noted that every second really gapes. Especially if you have it still a huge lens. What the Leica cameras have always identified that has perfectly used for Fuji. It just does not feel "threatened" by this camera.
- Women: Before I now reviled as a macho pig, it is absolutely, positively meant. I know many women who do not like a DSLR, because it is too large and conspicuous. The friendly saleswoman in Fotofachgeschäft was absolutely thrilled by the X-T1.
Not recommended is the Fuji X-T1
- Beginners: As mentioned, the automatic function and the film simulations give very good results, but to "automatic" should really not use the X-T1 permanently. This would forgive a lot of ways. Especially with the great lenses.
- Sports photographer: Who a Canon 1DX or Nikon D4 is used professionally, which is not happy with the X-T1. But this is true also for 99% of all cameras. A sports photographer simply needs the fastest camera with the best auto focus and are now once the cameras mentioned two.
