Granted, the logo "People's remote control" and the image logo startled me at first and see. A remote control just like the newspaper, for the very Doofen among us? In addition, I find the title inappropriate because grandma Erna as classic screen reader can not do anything with this device. Without PC / Mac with Internet connection goes nothing.
But the concept of programming on the PC, I found quite convincing in the Philips Pronto, although she was there unfortunately implemented extremely complicated with a gruesome surface. Because the price certainly was in line, I slammed. And do not regret it so far.
The programming on the PC is easily really super easy and also for art lay. It connects to the remote control via USB to the PC, creates an account (name, first name, e-mail address is enough), install a small program and is the manufacturer and model number of devices. My devices were found immediately. Then the data are transferred to the FB, finished. Well, almost ready for a bit of tweaking on the remote control is already more sensible, which is the default key assignments not yet optimal. So there on the Harmony only one button for teletext on / off; with my Samsung TV but there is a button for teletext and another for video text. The latter is not busy in the Standard to the Harmony so that you then only but other can no longer switch off the teletext. Even missing a button to allow the two-digit channel entry, so that can be only the programs 1 to 9 selected directly.
But these problems are resolved quickly. You can change all the settings for each button simple really. On the screen (unfortunately not all, you always have to scroll) one sees it left a photo of the remote control and on the right a list of all infrared commands of the unit. Then simply drag the commands that you need to drag and drop on one key, then press "Sync" - done. The lack of teletext stop button is now with me on "Guide", the two-digit channel input on the button at the bottom left of the keypad.
The design is a matter of taste, it is not necessarily a beauty, but not ugly. The Colani-like design is visually not quite my cup of tea, but it is at least good in the hand and the surface feels nice; it makes regelracht fun that keep FB in hand.
However, there are quite a number of things that could make Logitech even better:
1. Mir opens sch not know what you have to create an account with personal information. I see absolutely no reason for this other than data collecting mania.
2. When installing the software you have to accept any license terms. This is simply not serious, because you can make any subsequent conditions of the sales transaction. Even to stand in these license terms Sachend rin that are absolutely ridiculous and each dish would tip immediately. For example, is there, that one the account lock at any time or to set the service entirely. Just a joke. Who takes its customers seriously, so does not need a quark. Good thing this legal Dünnpfiff is legally absolutely irrelevant in Germany.
3. Also, I do not know why you need a particular software. This limits the applicability on Windows and Mac, compatibility with future OS versions uncertain. The surface could have been writing in Java, as drivers would have done a standard USB driver.
4. The key selection I find sometimes very absurd. Why there are four buttons for "favorite channels"? I have but usually select by program numbers 1 to 9 and can therefore even without such keys with one keystroke anyway. Equally absurd are the two additional keys above the directional pad and the "List" and "Live" button. On the other hand, lack important keys that are in my view used in most devices, such as the button for two-digit channel input that is required at least every second TV, more Teletext buttons (for example, for different display modes or, as with Samsung needed, VT off), and a button for aspect ratio (16: 9, 4: 3, etc.), for ShowView etc. Also you could have a lot more buttons mt provided a secondary label to assign own programming easily.
5. Failure to explain the IR control codes. These are partly a bit cryptic and one can only guess what the functions with names like "Number Enter" or "Dual I-II" are good. You have to try around a bit before. A brief explanation via mouseover would be very helpful.
All in all, I can recommend the device, despite these shortcomings, anyone who wants a simple universal remote control at an affordable price and can live with it to share its data on Logitech.
