The device itself is made of plastic, but does not look cheap, the connectors are a little deeper and engage good, even if you can wiggle the cord a bit, but this is in my laptop as well.

The transmission speed is decent and at the USB 3.0 devices of course correct quickly.
Warm or hot the device was not with me, I have but so far only a maximum of one hour a day of continuous use.
