After a few days of use I must say I'm excited:
- The screen is huge, very readable even in daylight, and well defined (there is a lot of pixels);
- The touch interface is very sensitive and reactive (no need to press several times or to go as gross).
- The menus are simple, intuitive, and not a penny labyrinthine;
- The unit receives well and quickly the satellite signals;
- The route calculation is very fast, indications, reliable, are set at the right time;
- Attachment to the windshield is solid (no danger that the unit comes off) and rather convenient (but beware, as this should depend on the windshield slope: it will be more aerodynamic and it will fix the GPS away from the steering wheel, which could become art).
Since this is our first car, this is my first GPS, so I do not have much back and my use so far remains pretty basic. In particular, I do not control the importation of additional interest points, I do not know how to use traffic information (that is theoretically possible with this device, but you must buy a special cable with a receiver). Nevertheless, this device gives an impression of quality and reliability that makes you want to trust him. I will update this review if that impression was to be belied by the facts.
Sure, some people will blame the GPS does not have a light sensor to adjust the screen size accordingly, the sound is of a quality comparable to that of the radio, there is no HD Traffic or bluetooth connection for hands-free calls, etc ... I can easily understand that for a big wheeler, these gaps could become a problem, but for the use I have, I think I can say that that is enough ample.
Before I conclude, just a word about the updates, managed by the MyTomTom software: for me they have gone very well, but the download and installation lasted an eternity at night (to have a theoretically higher throughput ), it took 3 hours to download everything, over an hour to install everything on the device. Note that, during download, the software indicated that the connection between the computer and the GPS was lost when I had unplugged it. He simply turn off the unit (still without unplugging it) and then on again to reestablish the connection.
Finally, this GPS has a very intuitive and provides a very efficient use guide. At this price, what more? It seems perfect for someone who, like me, would be relatively comfortable with electronics and computers, but not at a professional hacker. So you can offer your grandmother without apprehension :-), it should draw hands down!
