The Play 1 has the advantage of being very small and of a nice design. By level against her, this is heavy, it is sending. This is really impressive for the size of Lengin. I did not exceed half of the maximum volume and that is already much for a room of 15 m2. Not enough to make either disco, but it takes much the volume up very high levels without distortion; this is probably due to the solid construction of Play 1 and its not exactly lightweight (2kg still for its reduced dimensions 12x12x16 cm).
The sound quality is at the rendezvous, the bass is very present, and for such a small amount it is really surprising. The sound is clear, a little too serious / stifled for my taste with default settings but there way to fix this by removing the Loudness mode that adds a little too DEFFET "unnatural", and / or adjusting bass and treble. I personally still leaves the effect loudness (for some music it works well) but jaugmente a little treble. Another advantage, the sound is not too directional, that is to say that it is not really necessary BE in front of Play 1 to benefit dune good listening, facilitating positioning. Play the one with a real hi-fi system obviously can not compare (separate items with amp and speaker columns), or even to Play 5, but given the small size of Play 1 and its portable nature, the sound is good and far better than most standalone speakers and other higher prices docks.
I think quon may sound to a room of 15-20 m2 with a single copy without problems (but it's mono) and 30 m2 by a stereo pair by buying a second. Lampleur 5 Play the sound nest but obviously not reached the effect of stereo 2xPlay 1 must be nice. Not enough to shake the walls with one or two 1 Play but for normal listening volume to comfortable this is more than enough (and again surprising given the small size of the enclosure).
Compared to Bluetooth speakers, "nomads" or not, quon can find the same price, the quality is really superior, and the autonomous nature of Sonos has many advantages: it only plays music via the wireless network (The application can switch off PC, tablet or phone, once launched music application that serves Quà monitor speaker system), which is a guarantee of stability and ease (no need to stay within a few meters with its tablet, the risk of cuts or dinterférences not nexiste etc.).
In terms of disadvantages, I see nen quun only: Can not stream music directly of a smartphone / tablet (eg Youtube). We can directly play music stored on these devices but not directly stremaer the tablet sound. Jai But a solution for this: connect a Bluetooth adapter (quon is 20-30; jOperation me for example that of Logitech) on the 3.5mm jack Play 5 (or on RCA or jack Connect or Connect Amp) allowing you to stream music and to disseminate it on nimporte which or on ViaMichelin Sonos products! In high-quality (in reserve to buy adapters compatible A2DP or APT-X).
In summary, the benefits of the Sonos Play 1 for me are the following:
- Very easy to install
- Easy to use with dedicated application for tablets, smartphones and computers
- Autonomous nature of the speaker system using the onboard wifi (no cuts, no dinterférences, no limitation of movement unlike bluetooth)
- His good, can adjust bass and treble, and its not too directional
- Sound volume sufficient for a medium-sized room
- Ability to create a stereo pair with a second Play 1
- Multi-room system by combining with other Sonos products
- Prices quite correct for performance (much cheaper than the Play 3 or Play 5, or other Sonos components)
- Value for very good price compared to most other connected speakers and docks, given the unique benefits of the Sonos system
