JON MARK (John Michael Burchell) is a British songwriter, singer, guitarist and keyboard player and was born on May 08 1943 in Falmouth. Today JM lives in New Zealand. He was, among other things since 1969 member of the band with John Mayall and met the saxophonist and flutist JOHNNY ALMOND, with whom he a year later, along with bassist and keyboardist ROGER SUTTON TOMMY EYRE, the folk rock - band MARK - ALMOND founded. After JM 1972 during a tour in Hawaii by an unfortunate circumstance for most of his left ring finger forfeited, which pulled the demolition of this tour and a permanent constraint on Mark's guitar playing by himself, he worked intensified since the mid-seventies on solo albums. The late eighties JM discovered his passion for New Age - and Ambient music and originated from marvelous albums such as "The Standing Stones of Callanish" or "Land Of Merlin". On the album "Alhambra" 1992 JM sets this musical trend consistently pursued and presents you with a mix of Ambient - and New Age music. The total of 11 tracks are very quiet and unobtrusive, yet sometimes very emotional. As the album title can already suspect JM dedicated to this album musically the history of this same name and the impressive Moorish fortress on the Sabikah - hill in the Spanish Granada. That's it succeeded quite well, however, this trip takes, in my opinion, with over 70 minutes playing time then but rather in the length and acts after no more than one hour, very tiring to me as it just barely are any musical highlights. It all sounds very nice, but is just too little ... However, this CD is a wonderful place to relax. So if you are looking for something in this direction, is well served with this album. The song "Coming Of The Moors" I find very interesting, because there once the Moorish style of music is being taken. Similarly, like the song "Conquistadores", who brings a high level of emotionality. Overall, it is in "Alhambra" to a beautiful and unexcited album, but it can put in my opinion hardly musical accents. Too bad, because of this interesting historical issue you might have to make a little more ...
