With the stated here 395 ~ 400nm wavelength light is not really a UV light, but only fairly close. UV light begins to define only from below 380nm, however, ranging from 400nm ~ also the most to bring to fluoresce. (You see other reviews, but it is enough just not for everything.) The lamp is quite bright in my opinion, you should darken the room, however, quite a bit. Incidentally: Since you would not see real / "pure" UV light obviously hardly to, statements as "too dark" may not remain accurate or even meaningless if that was not considered. Fluorescent materials (provided that they are excited by 400 nm?) Shine very brightly in any case.
Supplement from February 2015:
The lamp has now aired months in the basement and no longer smells. Since the housing is made of aluminum so, can these good washing and should then have fewer problems with odor and potential toxins. Got my vote so clearly raised after renewed Think again.
