All in all, as I said actually 5 1/2 stars for a security camera in this price range.
But why only 4 stars? Unfortunately, there are a few points of criticism:
1. alarm images and videos can be transferred via FTP to a server. This is particularly handy when times really gives an uninvited guest access and "paralyze" the camera. Unfortunately, the upload is only possible with what the FTP credentials (username and password) are sent in clear text over the Internet on an external server. Here I would - what actually is technically not a big problem - SFTP and / or SSH (encrypted connection) expected.
When sending alert emails can contrast verschlüsslen everything via TLS.
2. On the camera you can thanks DDNS (even with "own" preset INSTAR DDNS address) access from anywhere in the world. For this one only has to the router port forwarding set on the camera. Thanks to user profiles can be set, who can do what. But here is the problem that the access via HTTP is and credentials are sent in clear text over the Internet. Here I would have expected HTTPS. You can access while controlling via an upstream VPN server and thus secure the connection. However, this is likely to overwhelm most users.
3. The power cable for the camera has fallen relatively short. Especially if you wish fix this a little higher on the wall, that's a problem. Dear require 2 want more, to pack a cable with 3 or 5m.
One should mention that the disadvantages described have the cameras from other manufacturers in this price fair enough. However, one could favorably separating it from the rest by relatively simple means ;-)
4. To view all the camera settings / controls to perform via Web browser, you need Internet Explorer with ActiveX. This is stupid, if one uses an alternative browser or even another operating system (such as Linux). According to the manufacturer, there will be a solution, at least for Firefox shortly.
