I had, even though I wanted to Sony in from the front, a very favorable offer for the AKG K551, which was so tempting that I wanted to take it. When it comes to processing and materials used the AKG is in my view clearly the best of 3. Here sound was not so 100% mine - he gives the music very analytically again. All tools work equally loud. In this way, you can hear even the finest details out, but somehow assumes thus, in my view, the "original atmosphere" of a song from, this is me then too much Hifi. Even the bass was very strange: Although clearly present and present with a good dose of deep bass, but somehow too analytical and thus somehow "cold" - is hard to describe it.
After I had the AKG returned, I ordered from Amazon and Sony to the Audio Technica, I had already tried out in Japan and found to be quite good.
Short even for Audio Technica: He liked almost best concerning the sound as a very healthy mix of Hifi while krätigen bass was present. Only bothered me the pressure on my ears (it was the only on-ear headphones), and Sony had simply by its large diaphragm even more "sound atmosphere" (this of course but less Hifi) that I particularly go very appealed , Had the strong pressure on my ears have not been or Audio Technica Over-Ears would have been, I probably would have preferred it to the Sony, but simply at Felt with much more pleasant and sounded fuller and warmer.

Although mostly of plastic he feels still quite valent and is very well made. It is lighter than the AKG, thus carrying comfort, In addition, he is also technically size between the two rivals and is thus still sufficiently easy to carry. Slightly more metal I would nevertheless found better - he is the most expensive of the 3 and not just offers it really the best materials.
In addition, I once exchanged him because my first model had a lot of freedom in the jack input of the headphone and occasionally crackled it when I too moved the cable. For me the price was far too high.
Here I give, especially as measured by the price, only 3 out of 5 stars.
Accessories:
Here beats Sony the two opponents mercilessly: 2 cable here (one with Micro and control, one without), as a Pouch (slightly padded pocket). For the other two is nothing to it. Sure thing, 4 out of 5 stars.
Why not 5? Because the case is likely to be quite better cushioned to adequately provide protection, but mainly because one of my biggest criticisms of the product:
As I learned you can get at Sony no replacement cables, just in case one should break. Is so great that you can change the cable, but if it does not substitute cables out there that could be used if there is a cable break times, what is the point of this feature then? DAS are in my view exactly the details, has never really thought of the Sony. It's a pity that Sony as more missed opportunities - I hope somebody of Sony Germany reads and there are more ...
Dear throw 2-3 less headphone models on the market, and for it with cool accessories, good quality and a lot of "extras" - that would ne great opportunity to generate a new "cult".
For me, the removable cable is therefore not useful feature of the headphones more.
Sound:
The Sony sound in my view quite different from both competitors. Very full and warm it is because still many details to be reproduced. In the field of details but rather gain the other two. Nevertheless, the sound hits my taste best, and that is what I ultimately yes. Even if the other two depict more detail and therefore are the hi-Ideal closer - I prefer to hear the Sony. Sony has always been sound met my taste - so here also.
The headphones also forgives most when you have time sound files poorer quality in the collection. The generally very good-natured sound like a lot here, without making the sound "flat" or to cover details. I hear almost exclusively Apple Lossless (ALAC) files, but some MP3s or AACs are attending, and by Spotify material is now quite a bit "lossy" this - as I said, the Sony uncovered the weaknesses not mercilessly, but fills the gaps with its full sound again ;-)
What I can not understand is that some reviewers write here, the bass would be a little weak. I see nothing like that - I feel it even slightly "ge-featured" slightly raised, without becoming too dominant. In my view the right place.
Listeners who want to sound Beats Audio alá, the bass will probably be too weak, but I shall be out of the hi-range and find the bass right: warm, full and present, but not too dominant.
Here I give 4 out of 5 stars.
Conclusion:
Hi-fi freaks and experts, I would recommend the AKG - the name "Reference" he adds, in my view rightly. The workmanship is superb. Troublemakers do only slightly increased weight and much too wide guessed jack which greatly restricts the use of the iPhone with some cases.
Price-performance winner is the Audio Technica, who I really promised sonically and in the more subtle appearance. Unfortunately, he pressed too hard against my ear, and also the plastic seemed a bit too cheap. Here I would a higher quality model to max. 200, - Euro wish, then the Sony would probably be replaced again ;-)
The Sony is for me the best of all worlds is - he wears most comfortable and flatters my musical taste with a warm, rich and detailed sound image that corresponds to me a good compromise between good nature and Hifi. I listened to him simply prefer - ultimately it makes the stop out. In addition, it provides a lot of accessories and looks cool without being too flashy.
But he also is not perfect, but I think, as measured by price, the material too bad. Even the removable cable, the one in the case of a cable break can not replace is simply annoying and incomprehensible.
I strongly recommend to test times with your own Player / Phone - Sound is an absolute matter of taste, and my true Sony has always been, therefore, the headset has my recommendation!

I have decided, but the headphones to give back (thanks to Amazon for great Kullanz!).
After two weeks of regular hearing me 2 points but noticed that bothered me too much:
1. After a short time, press on my ears, so listening is uncomfortable faster than I had first thought.
2. I have to say that I do not find the sound, especially for the price, clear enough. The heights solve not clean enough to me. I have the KH recorded 2 nights and 2 weeks long used regularly. However, that does not mean that he would swallow details - it's more a matter of taste of the sound itself, so I subtract also no star.
At a purchase price of 150, - but Euro I want my product really like it very much, and I realize now the tendency in me, prefer to listen with my Audio Technica Inear headset that me more for less money to Sound offers that I like.
Nevertheless, it is a good and quality product - it's more a matter of taste - that's Sound yes almost always ;-)
