In short it seems a good compromise. I have long hesitated to take an SLR because I was very happy with my Sony hx1 bridge that allows to do everything with a minimum of equipment. As long as we do not expanded or you do not crop too is nickel. After delivery I did a comparative (pictures with the same magnification and aperture) I've realized that the quality leap is enormous: With the Nikon D5100 and 18-105mm sharpness is such that we see little details perceptible to the eye (cobweb), zoom in on the photo are discovered details of perfect clarity (often thanks to the stabilization of the lens). The working range is wider opening and exposure (less magnification). The first problem is that we become a perfectionist by putting in the trash pictures for which the development was slightly missed, the second is that I spend all my free hours to explore all pictures the possibilities of my equipment !!
Contrary to what some say I do not find the complex menus or use by against the manual is not very clear and pedagogic. A beginner SLR will pay the basic book. With the lack of HDMI cable that led me to remove a star.
About costs, provide better early UV filters (protection, polarizing), cleaning kit, bag, stand and remote control ... but it is paid by the price difference compared to Canon 18-135mm kit or other 2 goals.
A sunshade and a bag comes with Nikkor lenses.
Congratulations to Amazon offering the lowest prices and with deliveries often faster qu'annoncées.
