We have the fairy lights on a clothesline (you can thread) hung in the party tent (9x6m), which was adequate with two smaller white lights. With us a pear had a hole, but we did not complained because we had no time, the bulb will still work. The colors are very beautiful. The light string is not cheap, but we think the price is this quality (also in terms of electrics) justified. I can anyone who sets up a tent or pavilion, recommended for dancing after dinner. Outdoors or in the rain, we have obviously not tried.
