When I was interested in the film, there were only 13 pieces of it here on Amazon.com and rare views were so far apart, as in this film.
Well, yet quickly glanced at IMDB. There, the film has a rating of 6.2 points (out of 10), which is not too bad at the moment. Then took a look at the other works of the director and again totally confused - the good man has actually before only turned scrap, to put it mildly.
What to do to not throw out the entire money out the window and keep the potential financial damage as low as possible?

I did not expect much, especially since the movie just had a budget of about $ 4,000,000 - really a joke, when one sees with what sums Hollywood largely so to be proposed in other productions.
I shall therefore only on the movie and not go into the technical details, such as the quality of the image and sound.
Two IT nerds (we would rather say hackers that reads nicer), Nic and Jonah, have long to know On the trail of the hacker and thus the competitors Nomad and my now where it resides, because it its signal and have thus its location tracked supposedly. The duo is completed by the girlfriend of Nic, Haley.
"The signal" begins as a kind of road movie with relationship stress (the girlfriend is moving), opens in a pinch Mystery and ends as a thriller / sci-fi movie.
About the story:
When the three protagonists have found the signal of Nomad and apparently tracked him down, the girlfriend of Nic disappears miraculously.
Then follows a cut and Nic and Jonah (which one hears only a while in the movie!) Can be found in a sort of research laboratory again. The people present there wearing all protective suits, on the grounds that Nic and his two friends are contaminated and this procedure was necessary. Laurence Fishburne plays the main protagonist of this group of researchers, including Damon. Other researchers have even seen, but these speak in the film not a single syllable ...
It provides a lot of questions and takes Nic tests before him.
Nic, who does not want add his fate readily be trying to find a way to escape from the lab again. Finally, he manages the outbreak with his two friends, but in a spectacular finale he learns what really happened to them.
Despite the very small budget you never see it in the film. There are magnificent landscapes, the camera movements are very clean, the "laboratory" in accordance with sterile due to the overall impression. The few special effects used look very good and without appearing retrofitted or cheap. Especially the settings toward the end have been technically very well done.
Who's approach to this film with the idea to experience as much action, fully takes next.
"The Signal" shines with the idea of playing with the pure idea in your head.
Or how Fishburne as nice replies as Damon in a setting when Nic confesses having spoken to Jonah secretly via the ventilation grille. "But you have only heard about him, but not seen Are you really sure that it was him? ".
"Matrix" sends his regards, but plagiarized plump under any circumstances.
The film is based on a lot of conversation and imagination. Really surprised me here the acting performance of Brenton Thwaites as Nic, I barely knew before. He plays this character so intense and believable that he alone is able to carry the film accordingly over the entire term at a high level.
Laurence Fishburne plays as almost always, very calm and collected, where it forms the perfect counterpart to Thwaites. I think of this young man (Thwaites) will be seen in the future more and hear ("Son of a Gun" Pirates of the Caribbean 5 ").
The conclusion has it all, because the twist is really super successful - I had not counted on this end, and really expected a different outcome of the film.
In addition, a then afterwards one or the other point in the film more clearly (for example the disappearance of Haley, what is also very briefly see in the film - I do not want spoilers here!).
I have long wondered how many stars I forgive for this film. I wavered 4-5 back and forth, but then it set me at 5 stars.
Yes, the movie has logic holes (such as, for example, the two guys came into the lab, about the other characters in the film we learn almost nothing, etc.). But cinema has really always so completely?
That makes the good plot, the great twist at the end and the excellent acting performance of Thwaites my subjective opinion, again loosely away.
In addition, a smaller film studio shows once again how to make visually successful and content into memorable movies with little money - without deep into their pockets and even without the big superstars!
