Unpleasant sound and solution:
After connecting and measuring with the very simple and clear Audyssey first time an unpleasant surprise: Although the Denon sound very pure but also somehow tinny and synthetic. Voices came over unnaturally bright. My 5.1 system of Quadral is now not the high-flyer, but the Kenwood came there already something sensible out. So went to the (long) search. Since I'm not an audio freak and am working only with new acquisitions with something, was only times read and googled announced. The solution: in spite of volume in the middle position (in the instructions for measuring as recommended) on the active subwoofer regulated the Denon after measuring with Audyssey this to -12dB down (lower limit) and the rest up to catch the "dominant" subwoofer. It then came out of the above sound. The solution: subwoofer volume to 1 / 4tel, again measure and behold, wow, what a sound! And one more tip: the active subwoofer turn up the crossover frequency (crossover) and allow full control the Denon.
We read here in the recessions always of modest sound at Denon. By now I am sure that the incorrect calibration (see above) or other connection problems is in most cases either. At least then, if previously came out a satisfactory result for the same boxes.
Internet Radio / saved settings:
I had here reingestellt before buying whether Internet radio can also be operated without turning on the TV. Here the homemade experience: yes, you can. Pretty simple actually. And the often criticized alleged limitation to only three memory locations do not exist. It is true that one can only call three Internet stations directly via the buttons on the unit or the remote control (the allerallerallerliebsten transmitter). And that makes sense. Because the other (favorite stations) can be put under Favorites or under the heading radiodenon.com. And the whole then by genre or how ever want sorted. That makes things clear. Can be called the favorite, and the stations stored under Denon.com, also with the remote control without the TV is turned on.
The often put forward criticism that you have to register for storing the radio stations with vTuner, I can not quite understand. Because in my view, one can find the programs directly on the machine and save it in the Favorites. Comfortable designed the whole via vTuner, because you can still make as subdivisions of favorites (genre, mood etc.). So you can decide what you want.
Internet Radio / Airplay / Spotify reception:
If connected via LAN to the router, it works wonderfully and without dropouts or interruptions. With me running over DLAN, ie, as the Denon stands above the outlet on a different floor as the router.
Before the Kenwood I had long experimented with external Internet radio solutions via the auxiliary input and wireless. Despite the best wireless reception occurred in all connected equipment (iOS and Android) and various Internet radio apps dropouts and interruptions. Even changing the wireless channel brought definitely there nix. That's over now. The radio droning already been a few days without a single misfire.
The same applies to the Airplay function. If you do not its router and its Internet line overwhelmed and surf simultaneously with three devices, video on demand and watch also telephoned VoIP, works quite excellent and flawless. The many problems that are described herein in connection with Airplay are due in my view to network problems. Particularly with regard to Internet radio via Wi-Fi so I have since made my experience (so) ...
Spotify: If you want to access directly from the device, you need a premium account with Spotify (really should be mentioned in the description). Since I do not have this, I access via tablet and streame via Airplay. Also it works flawlessly.
Jump for me for the Denon five stars out because he is perfect for me in this price segment. If you have the classification of the device only once understood, is also designed to operate very easily and intuitively. I think the Denon will accompany me at least as long as the Kenwood. ;-)
