I looked to my large and robust tripod of Giotto's still a small, compatible for hiking, but still sturdy tripod.
I have tested several manufacturers, but what remains is only the Togopod Luisa. Why?
Stability:
Despite the considerable extension height the Togopod is very stable. When extended with camera on it I'm over my eye level (I am 1.85m). For emergencies, you can also use it as yet perfect, but should work with remote release and mirror lock-up (but still better than no tripod). Most stable, it is if you can retract the smallest legs, and the center column. So it bears no significant camera shake my 60d + 70-300er Tele.
When the wind blows stronger times simply hangs his backpack or whatever. To the practical hook at the bottom of the center column This increases the stability again considerably.
The ball head:
Normally sets are where the ball head is equal here to use rather little. But here it's different. The ball head holds Bombenfest and slips no mm to. (Again with 60d + Tele) The panorama function is a nice feature for me.
The pack size:
Thanks to the foldable legs it is fully folded up about the size of a 1.5l bottle. It fits in perfectly with my camera backpack or if necessary even in my small messenger bag.
Processing:
A major problem of the stands I returned was mostly an inferior processing. The Togopod was the only that has convinced me, and where I have no hesitation to assemble my gear in it. I have no fear that the entire Klump overturned.
Well so far so good, but the "perfect stand" it does not there are probably so ....
Contraindications:
The rubber coating or the "foam covers" on the legs is so great so as not to freezes in winter, but unfortunately this is not adhered to the legs, and can be rotated. Top and slip down it does, however, so it is for me now not really a problem, but it should be said.
The "legs" of the last stage are already very thin (but still feel very valuable to MMN) and really to use in an emergency. But somehow you have indeed come to the small pack size ... a 2m tripod with the pack size of Togopod and the stability of a Berlebach it will probably never be and is also not the purpose of a travel tripod.
The locking of the legs is unfortunately only in one direction. For macros it would be great if you can lock the legs even when "on fold".
So I can for those seeking a compact but stable travel tripod issue a strong buy recommendation. Not only for smaller cameras. My 60D has been held also with attached telephoto stable from ball head.
As far as my initial assessment. Let's see how it goes in life ....
