Well, sometimes then come the bargain hunters, who consider that it also does a Celeron / Pentiom notebook for 150 because "I do not much and can wait a few seconds." I believe that you can smoke this statement in Fife, because after a certain period of time these people come back and just whine about the notebook, which is always slow. Then they would have been ... deleted photos, music, videos and runs but still so slow. Sometimes I wonder then if you think of the computer would be about more easily and return to its former performance ...
This notebook has spread in recent weeks a success story that I would like to share with you. At the beginning I was able to convince one of the friends described above that the are about 360 invested sufficiently well for this notebook. It just comes with an i3 processor from Intel, a TB hard drive and Windows 8 in a non-professional version. Lenovo bundles the part even with one year warranty which can be extended - more on that later.
The first start was painless and was waiting for me already the revelation and I looked into the Hellmouth, also called Desktop: What Lenovo as delivers to Bloat- and Scrapware, I did not see a long time. Pity about the users who are not aware of the detailed establishment of a notebook and must be satisfied with this chaos.
The first step is, as so often, the thinning of the software, you do not need. About the "Programs and Features" in the Control Panel is straight forward. What I usually brush by the computer, is the existing protection solution of any manufacturer. Reason: Most limited and replaced by better alternatives. Following are still unprofitable services (Windows not needed) and solved startup entries from the system. Workload for: not an hour. In between every now and then a restart and already things look better.
Because the subsequent users from time to time does not know what to do with full administrative privileges, I turn still the only true "administrator" free, give this a password and install necessary user software (Firefox, archiving program, VLC, Adobe Reader, antivirus software , PDF Writer, CD burner software, ...) in the the user. After all this is done, I deprive the user's admin rights and step it down to a standard user, then the system must enter the admin password when tampering with and hopefully think about it (and reluctant?), Why he do it now needs.
As antivirus, I use basically and for years (yes, yes ... advertising) Kaspersky Antivirus and Internet Security not. Also on this notebook ended the 30-day trial, which I then later release system with a cheapy license from Amazon. The virus gets even imposed a password so that no actions without their input are possible.
After a few more adjustments and restart of Windows I commend the notebook on my acquaintances. What makes me happy and also surprised: For an i3 with a normal hard drive, the part is unusually fast. Return from standby, restart, etc. does the Lenovo fix and reliably.
By now I've set up the third G50 and can speak from experience here: Tries to you once the upgrade with a 120/250/500 Samsung SSD Evo. In combination with this upgrade the narrow-chested i3 takes a back seat and most of the works are carried out instant. Well, every now and then he shrugs then at this, but that is absolutely bearable.
What I am Lenovo G50 still liked:
- The keyboard makes a valent impression 360. I recently had a time Asus notebook in hand ... hui, the keyboard was with the baggy and unusable. Almost nauseating. I wonder how Lenovo brings at the price on the range. The tap goes well by the hand and makes even after prolonged use no effort. By pressing a button on the keyboard are pressed point is always something to what the cost structure (price) of the overall device is my opinion. But again: whining to rather above-average level.
- The device is narrower than expected. Well, it's not a Ultrabook, but the first unpacking I was amazed because it ... well ... is simply flat, when I wanted to foresee it.
- The G50 has an HDMI output. I find now great and important. Furthermore you can then transport with a narrow cable video and audio. If there is no standard, hence the mention here.
What I found not so great:
- The display has already been repeatedly perceived as very glossy here. Yes ... well ... yes, the display is not dull. But that's not always the sensation of the individual? I myself have not bothered me about it. What I do not find so successful: the display is me tend to dark on the brightest stage. One can long time it works, but when compared to higher-priced devices falling already on. Would be for me, but not (!) KO criterion. I had already more expensive devices, which brought an equal power and there the surface of the display was unevenly illuminated - much disturbing.
- The drawer of the optical drive is a bit fiddly to open.
- I had then but once a network cable plug and probably I asked myself just too stupid to: To me it was not possible to insert the network cable without moving the protective flap (yes, there is) in voltage. That was more of a bending of the protective cap, then insert the network cable. From the easy removal of the cable one can not speak here also. But maybe I stood indeed wrong.
- The power supply to the chassis is similar to a USB connector. Want to know even how many have tried, there a USB device ;-) accommodate. Is also something new, but with universal power supplies you will not get far with the Lenovo.
- The top of the display lid takes, although it comes rough, even fingerprints. Unfortunately is not as good brushing. But also come back to the skin type of the user.
Bottom line, it indicates this unit no vulgarities, that should keep you from buying. If you come with 15.6 inches and the resolution rightly, ye served here decently. I repeat it again: Seek out can an acquaintance who screws and copy a bit. The should you then install an SSD, the existing system clone and then you are happy.
Finally, a tip: Warranty! The manufacturers have apparently made their own, with just a ridiculous year to shine warranty. And now I do not come with "But in Germany we still have two years anyway." That's nonsense, because guarantee is not warranty and the latter is available in two-year execution regulated by law in Germany. But in serious cases hardly to use in my opinion.
Therefore, here are the lottery numbers for your Notebook: 5WS0F82907. This Manufacturer's number you get at various points in the network the originals warranty (Bring in) provided by Lenovo. So that your device is protected for 50 brief for 3 years and when it happened that a piece of hardware fails, Lenovo cares about. If I'm right, there is this guarantee as a local service and over 5 years. I think that (maybe plus. SSD) even at a price of 360 units pay this 50.
From the Amazon Ergo guarantee I advise against because of my gut feeling. I once had a similar thing, and since then has been harping about how much for now will be repaired and if you do not just receive an interim payment. The customer is then at the end, unfortunately, without repaired device there and may be possibly look for a new investment - forget it. (Like well they work so different also) Manufacturers WARRANTIES, in my experience, always ensure that the defective unit will be repaired, as long as no proper fault.
Best regards and hopefully help my review in the purchase decision!
