After good experiences with other lenses (Tamron 2.8 / 70-200mm = excellent and Sigma 50-500mm = very good) I have now dared me to order the 16-300mm lens for my Canon 7D. It came as usual from Amazon the next day. In the evening, the first test with a good first impression sharpness. This was the precondition for the test the next afternoon. Each new lens is tested by me for years in Hamburg's warehouse district. The large building with its red brick and lots of windows, labels, etc. are very suitable for all focal lengths, a huge test panel of stone and glass. All recordings are made on a stand with mirror lock-up, self-timer, no image stabilization at ISO100.
Back at home, was made the comparison of focal lengths and aperture settings, as well as the comparison with the results of other lenses.
Conclusion: I had to change my bad opinion of soup zoom. The lens will not be returned and will shortly be along for the ride. I am pleasantly surprised by the sharpness. It is, if one disregards the not so great light intensity, without limitations. The only complaint is the low light intensity, but that's the price you have to pay for a 540g lightweight travel zoom.
