Customer Review

In short, the Nikon D 5200 is very compact and light and makes beautiful photos.

The change from a D 5100 is not really necessary, but makes a lot of fun and sense.
Who can use 2 Bodies, should retain the D 5100 when buying a D 5200 quiet ...

In DSLR range I've actually toyed with the D 7000. The often better reviews of D 5100, but in particular
the battery equality with my P 7000 have the decision to purchase a D 5100 with the 18-105er lens
given (my at that time almost 900 euro expensive Coolpix 8400 is no longer supplied with batteries and therefore only serves as
Visual object).
With the D 5100 I was very happy (except for the built-in mono microphone).

Since D is 5200 become priced affordably at just under 550 euros, I was tempted a "upgrades".

The feel has remained the same compared to 5100 D, the relatively small body fits comfortably in the (large) hand.

Positive changes are the additional adjustment for continuous shot / self-timer, the advanced video settings
and the stereo microphone.

The now 24 megapixels have really put me off, stood in direct comparison test with the D 5100 (weather permitting /
Daylight), contrary to expectations as improvement out. The images I like visually better if I no stunning increase
have noticed (a photographed from a distance sign was eg not more readable, even if it at the same intention size
sharper / smoother appeared).
Among the criticisms of the sloping picture quality from ISO 1600 I can not say anything because I rarely use this ISO-areas. As you look at
such pictures is rarely hang the posters on the wall, I mean, you can neglect this issue. Who needs something,
will probably change even more in the full-frame storage. With 13x18-prints I see no problems ;-)

Some describe the D 5200 to be slow. These things I have not felt so.

A fast memory card (Class 10 and UHS-1 45/80 / 95MB / s) and the setting of Serienbildgeschindigkeit to "high"
bring benefits, which I personally also a Class 10 card with 30 MB / s (read) outcoming performance. For 4-5 images at a time
(RAW + JPEG FINE) enough that.

The additional measurement fields I find positive, the autofocus is felt sometimes faster, sometimes slower than the previous model, the
Exposure is felt "safer" - perceived tendency therefore rather positive.

What, however, still (was at the D 5100 similar) to complain about, is the Live View mode. This is being evil slowly,
if you can live with it (you're there spoiled by the Mini-snapping something good photos / videos succeed so anyway!).

I have the monitor usually collapsed and let me exposure time / aperture / ISO display in the viewfinder. This also extends the maturity
clearly!

Many problems stem obviously from the fact that many photographed with the green automatic setting.

It is definitely worthwhile to invest in a good camera and book to familiarize yourself with the (many) settings.
So you can park several "beautification automatics" and will find ie the 30 fps video mode that is only when you select the
NTFS instead of the PAL video mode set can (Some "experts" go in their books not in this ways a thing
the information advantage of such books in relation to the PDF manual can be questioned at least partially.)

A replacement battery should have at least this and also sufficiently large memory card, then you have a lot of fun with the camera.

Conclusion:

Is it worth the switch? Answer: Yes and no ...

Considered rationally, you have mainly in video mode distinct advantages (stereo instead of mono microphone, better settings).

In the photo section, the experts argue. One should not be fooled by the megapixel numbers here.

For me personally it was the decisive factor that I call "daylight" photographer who liked his pictures on large screen TV or
Monitor considered a recognizable (though small) gave improvement in image quality. The novelty has certainly
also played a role, besides, I could give my D 5100 in payment ...

As a sole camera, I probably would have rather chosen the D 7100, which offers further possibilities.
With me here the existing equipment (P 7000 with the same battery) has finally tipped the balance in favor of D 5200.
