What About Now (Limited Deluxe Edition in digipack incl. 4 bonus tracks) (Audio CD)

Customer Review

2013. Bon Jovi can look back on about 30 years of career, more than 100 million records sold, an incredible number of prices and at least as much live shows. Nevertheless, the guys from Jersey does not put to rest, but now are back with What About Now. In his luggage much social criticism, but also what Bon Jovi have taught for years with her songs: optimism. No matter how complicated the situation is, get up, go ahead! Why? That could be answered with the first single: Because We Can!
And then we are already in the middle of the CD and the impressions that she has left with me. I think in any Bon Jovi album (let's take This Left Feels Right out) I was so divided in two, as in this. Nevertheless, I'll try again to pack in words:

FIRST IMPRESSION / BECAUSE WE CAN? (7/10)

The first impression of the panel, mediated by Because We Can, which is quite a certain popularity in the Radio pleased with me for the time being has caused more of a big sniff, raised eyebrows and pursed lips that should be Bon Jovi in 2013? Does not really convinced me at first hearing and is more reminiscent of a pop band with a few guitar elements, because of a rock band, who has 30 years of experience in songwriting. Somehow something shallow, soft flushed and me too much tinged by Obama Spirit. My fears: many pop elements, which actually should be guitars and an album that reflects mainly a: Jons social engagement and his political activities. Sure, these actions are laudable, but it is me on a rock album that sometimes simply should only entertain, now too much and I'm too much in the direction of Bono, U2 and world improvement urge. Yes, also formerly Bon Jovi socially critical, but the whole thing was less obvious packed and we did not feel, to hear Obama's political program in song form.
And how it looks after repeated listening? Slightly better, much ahead. While Because We Can belongs more to the songs that do not distinguish themselves by special creativity and songwriter arts, I do not turn it off as well. It has found a place in my head and a little bit would be the heart but when you hear the typical start of the radio. It teeters with, you look at it on the radio loud, the enthusiasm keep Although still limited, but overall I have found my peace with the song and give him a good Okay.

IM WITH YOU (9/10)

Here, for the first time feeling a: Yes, they can still, thus fulfilling the message of the first song decoupling. For me one of the highlights of the disc. Powerful song that has something to say and is reminiscent of older songwriter qualities of the band. Again, the social criticism can be seen, but it sounds much more universal and not so Americanized. But even without thinking about social criticism does the song wonderfully. Powerful Chorus, which has found its way into my heart: If I got something, I got something to proof "
Why only 9/10 points? Because there is something that bothers decided, namely strong! The song is produced totally bad, at least when it comes to the voice of Jon. Where is Listen to the line times the depth of the space-filling sound: Look at this world full with its worn out faces, forgotten places .... on. Remember what? That's right, it sounds more like a little voice at that recalls The Blechdrommel Günther Grass. While the remaining effects are matched to the song, you have too much going on here at the controls. Somehow distorted to tinny anyway. My Wish? Exchanges the producers and that quickly!

WHAT ABOUT NOW (8/10)

This Bon Jovi resort to a question that probably burns many people currently on your mind: What about the here and now, what is happening? Again, the message is packed into a powerful package that Bon Jovi is typical. Just a real stand-up song for the little people. Courage, and stand for your conviction a. Recalls at the beginning a bit of Lost Highway and fits seamlessly into staying songs by Bon Jovi.

Pictures Of You (8/10)

Starts with unusual sound effects, as they are now listening to several albums. Whether or Killers Imagine Dragons. So now even Bon Jovi. Not that it's terribly bad, but really I am not convinced of this mix. Well-produced pop song, with rock elements, the still that little bit lacking bite. That can not tear out the brief solo by Richie and the vigorous onset Drums of Tico also. At least it is the end power and charged ahead and driving the song still manages to turn things around.

AMEN (9/10)

With Amen she comes then, the typical ballad that must on every Bon Jovi album. Although the line Mercy, Mercy what else can I say something initially flat, then increases but and the end still a very beautiful song that shows in its center that Jon's voice can be wonderfully still and feeling in the songs can bring. The use of violins underlines the Dreamy of the song and fits seamlessly into the Akkustiksetting. Here finally bothers times no smooth ironed Synthesizer Sound effect, without which a Bon Jovi album might work just as well in my opinion. The lyrics are overall quite well done and make Mercy Mercy compensated quickly. I like the song Amen!

THATS WHAT THE WATER MADE ME (6/10)

Baby, baby, baby There is no use in trying to save me well no gloss line to open a song and I've seen better. Baby, baby, I hear in every other song on the radio. Do you have to write the song thus? Not quite. The rest was quite okay and was a bit more powerful (if one takes out the middle, when I wonder why you here on sound effects here of Drums has set from the PC again?). What else remains to say: Catchy chorus, shimmering guitar sound nice to drive a car with the windows open. Yes, going okay and you can get used to it.

WHATS LEFT OF ME (5/10)

Recalls at the beginning of the legacy of Lost Highway this makes the entry with acoustic guitar and the country elements. Toe-tapping in the marquee one could very well describe it I think. And of course the obligatory Hey, hey not missing, you will indeed have an audience what to do in the stadium. Can tie me right round but not warbles merrily to himself, in the middle is the famous break, a gossip Part, but somehow a terrible geknautschte song line. If you have somehow heard that before, could be on almost each of the last albums and somehow goes far past me without a trace.

ARMY OF ONE (6.5 / 10)

There he is at last: Tico! Unmistakably and without the effect of shallow PCs. Estimates Driving drum use. With effects of Livin on a Prayer. What follows is a slightly different version of Status Quo Youre in the Army now. At least I felt so. Sign me up, Im a soldier well, well I have a feeling that suddenly appear in many songs military elements, here just the soldier. Again typical staying Parole, albeit with many repeating elements such as the never give up, never give up, never, never give up, never let up eventually target directly into long-term memory. And there it remains. No lyrical tour de force, but also had its effect. Okay, I'd say.

THICK AS THIEVES (10/10)

After all rallying comes with Thick as Thieves again a quiet number that tells finally of something else, as the difficult economic situation in which we find ourselves and which is constantly shown us. This is about friendship, love, for each other-existence. Wonderful wrapped in deeper lyrics and the sound matching facade. Quiet strings elements complement the creeps mood. Bon Jovi show here again, a rock band is not always serious, according to convince.

BEAUTIFUL WORLD (8/10)

Starts somehow fresh, and forces you to mitwippen almost. Estimates Driving rhythm, though a bit trendy. The chorus is incredibly catchy and after listening twice in the head. Sing warranty? Who wants to, they will surely find in this song. Classic Bon Jovi sound, with some fresh elements that greatly listen at the beginning after the song "How Far We've Come" by Matchbox 20. Has nevertheless played in my heart.

ROOM AT THE END OF THE WORLD (10/10)

Again, the song starts quiet and you are immediately immersed in the text lines and the mental cinema starts running. The chorus increases and power is charged, but does not lose the Dreamy. Absolutely proper use of sound effects and instruments. Blends seamlessly and provides a well-rounded. Runs more often with me and know absolutely pleasing.

The Fighter (7/10)

With The Fighter closes the album (if you do not comply with the bonus tracks). Again, is set to a rather quiet finish and a rather Audible setting that does not need any major effects. Would fit perfectly in a film. Here you have to take time for the text lines and plunge into the song. The Fighter is certainly no song that you sometimes just casually listen to or as background music. Yes, that's fine, even if I'm not totally pleased with it.

(Excluded from the vote) BONUS TRACKS:

THESE TWO HANDS
The lyrics convey one thing you do not get me small. Proud, defiant and preceded triebend presents the song, as if you want to show it to the world. The chorus flattens a little bit, yet fits into the overall concept of the song.

NOT RUNNING ANYMORE:
Written for the film Stand Up Guys has now found a place in the new BJ Album Not Running Anymore. First was getting used to but now has a permanent place in my heart. Lyrically absolutely great and a more thoughtful song in which everyone should go once in itself. In any case worth listening to.

OLD HABITS DIE HARD:
This song was also written for Stand Up Guys. For me, in direct competition with Not Running Anymore the clear loser. Grabs me somehow not right, although I do not entirely reject the song.

EVERY ROAD LEADS HOME TO YOU
This song eventually finds a song by Richie's solo album Aftermath of the Lowdown on the album. I've won the song very much. Reminiscent of a cool summer day, in which you inevitably do, the fall is around the corner and a touch of nostalgia to come. But no matter how hard the times, eventually you will always find the way to the place where you feel at home. Who does not know the album, which I set hereby warmly.

CONCLUSION:

As versatile showcase the songs from the new Bon Jovi album, so versatile was also an emotional level with me. From an oh no, please, no politically flavored album, about incomprehension how to overproduce so songs & a tired Yeah, okay, you can hear, but nothing great, to immediate toe-tapping, sing along and grow fond. This album does not make it easy at first hearing and it is difficult to find an opinion about it. You do not want to hate it, but it can not really love them too. What this album is primarily calls for: time! The line in "Room at the End of the World", which states: Take Your Time, take it slow, maybe you should heed, eh rashly praise or scathing words are delivered. The songs must be allowed to grow, can unfold, even if that does not always mean that they rise to the popularity scale or get beyond the okay status and you have to admit that one back to the times of These Days no longer comfortable in it is. Also with me it will be more auditions until I possibly come from a back-and-torn to an absolute position until I know if the album is a long-term place in the playlist or is rapidly disappearing in the shelf. So far I'd 3.5 star awarded with bias to 4 stars, but only, because just a few highlights.
