It starts with the theory as a basis, Alexander Henry shows live like that light sets on the camera look (so first without flash, then internal flash, compact flash, compact flash unleash) and how you can draw shapes and light.
So he builds then patterned on a light setup for a beautiful studio portrait.
Then it's on to something drier Theory and he explains everything you need to know about the lightning. It's not just about things like the flash sync speed or differences between manual and TTL flashes, but also about when I use what flash head (plug-in or studio flash, Porty) how I bounce or how long flashes.
What I like about Alexander Henry doing much so that he can explain very well, he is always clear in his language and you can follow him very well.
According to this technique Theory continues with equipment Theory. Former Lightning, light shapers and accessories are discussed and presented in detail. This whole "material battle" but not missing a subchapter which means "lightning equipment for small budgets". So you do not feel like after this training, a bank or better to have the same attack a photo shop.
After a setup has already been established for a studio portrait in the first chapter, it comes again in the fourth chapter to "The perfect flashed Portrait". After the two theoretical chapters, we now know a number of light shapers and Co, which are now used in practice - that's what I mean by systematic construction of the training. It is not slain here of too much knowledge, but you get everything appetizers manner and at the end everything comes together into a larger whole.
Namely, when it in- to flash techniques in 5th and 6th chapter and outdoor go. Here the title is now program. It is flashed from a fridge out and created a Levitationbild, in a cornfield a setting sun is sometimes just simulated or it is shown how to build the ever-popular "American Night" light setup. There are a lot of inspiration to see and the usual clear explanatory language helps continue at a good understanding of the techniques shown.
The training concludes with two chapters on special effects and product photos. Here is Alexander Henry how to build complex lighting setups, working with color slides or he explains what type of light is useful in product photography for which product.
All this practice setups almost always followed by a Photoshop part, so that one riff and the finish to the picture on the computer. Where necessary disturbing picture elements are removed, Color Looks generated or enhanced effects.
I photograph myself a bit longer with clip-on and a Porty. I have gained this DVD along with the DVD "Breaking the Rules" by Martin Krolop. This is the perfect combination in my eyes. I think it does not abort, watch the theory chapter again, even if you think you already know everything. There are always one or the other tip that you might not yet know. The practical parts have the predicate definitely deserves "creative" and those who want a little walk away from the structured work on this DVD, the DVD looks of Martin Krolop at (please do not get me wrong, he is also very structured, but just different and above all in this DVD aware differently).
Positive noticed is my way, that in this training not only models stood in front of the camera, which is not self-evident at such a training, I think it's good. So you get in addition also explains how to influence the poses of the model or how to photograph wearing glasses with lightning.
I spend some reviewers rather that the covers are misleading, but with the knowledge of this DVD you know how to implement these pictures. And a bit of motivation has to be yes.
My conclusion: For beginners in flash photography, this training is a super investment. At the beginning of the whole DVD is perhaps, learn a lot of knowledge content, but it does not have to look at everything at once and try. For advanced users, a part of the training is definitely one to repeat, but the practical part is fun on imitation and trial and error, it's fun to watch Alexander Henry at work and the flash techniques are really creative.
