As our old Sony stereo system with Sony two-way speakers (in these boxes we never had anything to complain about) had given up the ghost, had to be something new. We chose the same for a 5.1 home theater system. There was a special offer in a major domestic market, we bought (unfortunately unheard as not connected in the business), the Canton Movie 85 CX at a super price.
The reviews on the Internet, especially on Amazon were classified as very good.
Impressive was the one hand the size of the subwoofer and the smallness, heaviness and elegance of 4 same satellite and surround speakers and the center Lausprechers. Concern because of the smallness of the speaker and the potentially limited bass response were almost distracted by the reviews.
At home, the speaker system has been installed immediately.
The fact that no speaker cable included, I see it as quite normal. Finally, the Lausprecherhersteller not know where and how the speakers are to be installed in each room. Because sometimes gives quite a cable length.
Connecting the speaker cables 2.5 mm2 proved somewhat difficult, since the terminals Spring terminals and deeply seated in the housing.
The wall brackets are also relatively stable, however, could be more stable because of the seriousness of the speakers. The clamping of the speakers on the journals of the wall brackets worked well (contrary to some other reviews, maybe this problem has been eliminated).
Anger prepared the center speaker, which is very rounded at the bottom. According to instruction for stable set-up are two molded plastic wedges to stick. However, it was only one in the packaging. An inquiry at the electrical wholesale market showed: in other packages is only a plastic wedge included. You have to experiment with different adhesive feet until you reach a reasonably stable line-up. The manual therefore is wrong.
Then came the big moment: the receiver was switched on. And at that moment came the great disillusionment: what then came out of the speakers, was very different from the old Sony speakers. What I had secretly feared: from the front speakers and the center speaker only came tinny highs! In some passages of the subwoofer remained silent because there was no bass. If the song contains lots of bass, the subwoofer was working good, but stop just in Tiefstton area. Conclusion: the frequencies of estimated 250-80 Hz are completely missing in this speaker system! I have not done the work, the system by mete out, my ears rich as fine. It is a complete mystery to me why so many people and even trade journals evaluate this system as well. When times assumes a journal: please frequency response of the system to measure! It was easy to listen atrocious. A bit better grip than the puny and tinny TV speakers. What Canton as writes in his adulation, is fictitious and has nothing to do with reality.
Now good advice was expensive. Everything repack and return because of total dissatisfaction? Now, the rear speakers should not be greater, as they would otherwise be very disturbed in the living room. And rear speakers, the bass is not quite as important. Place the center speaker could use if need just because the heights yes over came in. The subwoofer does quite well-behaved his services. But the front speakers must be replaced that are absolutely useless. Either from the waste it, or cancel if even a rear speaker fails.
My interest was already fallen on the Victa series of Heco. This series has the internet very, very good reviews. So I ordered as the front speakers Heco Victa 201 (the 301 I would have preferred, but they were to me a bit too large), advantageously again for the best price. When they came, immediately connected and turned on the receiver.
Then came the eureka moment. Now you hear what you want to hear. The Victa deliver super bass to Tiefstton area, the lower (80 Hz) took over the Canton subwoofer. Conclusion: Satisfaction.
Overall Conclusion: I can only advise against all that Canton 85 CX to buy if you want to have a reasonably comprehensive sound. You will only get angry. If you buy it anyway, the front speakers are necessarily replace. Whether then are the price of effort and then mixed system for this is the other question. From what I've heard from the Victa 201 (of course more expensive) Victa system is likely to be highly recommended.
I spend more than 2 stars, because the Canton 85 CX is partly usable. But I can not recommend it. Why Canton offers such a thing is beyond me.
