Seeing Eye Dog (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Let's face it, even if Helmet now no longer the freshest produce sound so it would be really bad if it no longer would this great band. Nevertheless, many fans still have problems with the resurrected since 2004 Helmet. Admittedly, Page Hamilton with nearly 50 years is no longer the youngest, what one notices especially by his voice, which has become very thin in the song and it just a kind of "croak" instead produces the Screaming vocals. Also missing for a lot of fans (myself included) a John Stanier on drums. The main criticism is certainly for many, however, in the songwriting, which is described in Size Matters as unimaginative. Well, Size Matters frightened at first because it was tinged very pop, but opened it after a certain time an incredible dynamism and it is undeniable that a few ingenious Helmetkracher contained thereon. The same applies also for the fact published in 2006 Monochrome. Although to the album even very undertakes is just referred to by Page Hamilton personally the development phase to this album as a "nightmare". This was mainly at the former label Warcon.

Well, new label, new luck. With a year late Mr. Hamilton kloppt us the next board on the head. Seeing Eye Dog is a good piece and is not only entitled but also has a rather strange strange as Helmetuntypisches album art. What is, however, the music offered is again worthy of all honor. Especially the production compared to the previous Monochrome is miles better. As with the two predecessors, the songs are mostly melody-heavy pounding riffs alongside powerful. What is striking is how to experiment bandleader Hamilton approached the album. With "morphing" is not just a number, which consists largely of strings is present, it is also still gecovert with "And Your Bird Can Sing" a Beatles song. These two songs are by far the most unusual that you would expect on a Helmetalbum. It is certainly a matter of taste for each Helmetfan, but for me the songs fit well to the plate and even a nice break between songs. Very experimental acts the band at "LA Water", which even slightly reminiscent of the thick bass and noise fragments at the Betty-phase. Anyway, one notices in all these songs to experiment and you realize that Hamilton had a lot of fun this album. One need anyway to worry again freshly resurfaced tracks from Hamilton's former second band Ghandi get purposed.
I find the Seeing Eye Dog is the strongest album since Helmet has reformed 6 years ago. This is also the title of the album the band many perform live. I am in any case too may experience the next time live for the next opportunity, this by no means decrepit tape.

Oh, and the live CD, which is also listed. A nice idea, it is so, because otherwise very difficult rankommt live footage of the band on stage and Helmet are like many times before the hammer. Unfortunately, the recording quality is only on bootleg level what the overall impression dims slightly. Therefore, the Live CD the total package provide no advantages. But also is not necessary, because the album itself has already earned a perfect score.
