The reviews of the major magazines have thrown with 100 points ratings around. Naughty Dog has announced itself as a revolution there, especially in the area Story. Can the game be this incredibly high expectations?
Short and sweet: A revolution is not in my eyes. The hitherto best game of this generation definitely!
The Last of Us is a very risky game. No story of epic proportions. No Michael Bay action. No casualisiertes combat system. And I want to kiss the feet that they let Naughty Dog do what they thought was right Sony. For The Last of Us is an incredible blockbuster.
But first to the contents of the Joel-Edition:
This special edition is delivered in a well-made cloth bag, as they are often familiar from tool packages. On the bag itself the face of the character of each edition is printed. The bag including pressure are absolutely high quality and could actually be useful as a survival bag.
First, probably falls on the artbook. This is a small book with hard cover where you will find numerous artworks and concept drawings. The book is also very high quality and for people who are images in this way, very successful.
Second, then falls directly onto another small booklet. Here is the first part of a small, four-part comic series, which serve as a prequel to the game and tell the story of Ellie. The cover of the comic is a special edition in this edition and is not like the normal cover of the comic. The comic itself is beautifully drawn and remember the signature style of the Scott Pilgrim comics. Very nice is that this edition of the comic was even printed with German text.
There is also a sticker set for PS3 controller. This consists of several parts, which individually can be all well attach to the controller. The design itself is chic!
The poster was printed only on paper and unfortunately not provided with a film. The design itself is very successful.
The game is, of course, this in a special slipcase. Although this looks very nice, but I would have rather wished a Steelbook here.
They are joined by a few more, more, digital extras.
In my eyes, the edition is worth the extra charge of 20, provided that one is because a fan of Special Editions. If one has in such editions not interested, but you missed nothing, if you buy the normal edition.
Now for the game:
About the story without much to spoilers: The Last of Us tells no, great, epic story. Unlike most other games The Last of Us tells "only" the story of Joel and Ellie. This has also not unexpected twists. Sometimes it is even predictable. What actually sounds pretty bad at first glance, absolutely does not do anything. For the whole story about the two characters, their relationships and how they are changing, Naughty Dog tells a perfection, as it has not been given to date. You feel more and more with the characters with, understands the changes and feels this even after. In the end, a story arises without large Tam-Tam, but one that no longer break free you from the screen, if you do einlasst plan. All the trappings what all happened after the failure of the fungus spores, The Last of Us theme hardly not to. But it's not that in the game also. It's all about the journey of two characters. Everything can be found in terms of story picks fed into each other, so this very special story has more substance, as almost all the stories of other games. This leads at the same time also means that you think about the characters. You have to decide whether the characters are now rather well or rather bad as a player. Because a "good and evil" does not exist in this world. You try to survive and is focused. This means there is even an excellent way for a tape player attached, so that its own morality may be for an overall interpretation decisive.
Naughty Dog proves that you can go different ways in terms of story. And so they have created a story which may inhabit the story throne to date.
Technology:
Xbox One? Playstation 4? One might almost think it would take no new consoles. Naughty Dog's Uncharted series exhibited in every part of the new graphics are exceptionally well. And now comes The Last of Us and topt Uncharted 3, where you actually thought that the on the PS3 can no longer surpass again to quite a bit.
Well, could be a little bleating that at certain points the podium effects but are a bit strong, but that would not be fair. The Last of Us scores with good textures, great effects and grabs the whole thing in an immaculate good design. Outstanding are mainly the character models. The character models of Uncharted were already very, very good, in my opinion, but still an easy stylistic touch had. The characters in The Last of Us look just real. But that do not only the models, but also the excellent animations. It is just as alive interacts with the environment, and the movements look easy from real. Add to this insanely good mimics. You can view the characters in the face her feelings. Personally, I have seen in any other game characters, who seemed so incredibly alive.
The sound is also great cinema. Besides the really good effects and sounds of those infected, there is a very successful soundtrack, which uses exactly the right places.
Should particularly like to highlight one but again the German synchronization, which is simply just excellent.
Technically this thing is just fucking great.
Gameplay:
In most places The Last of Us is a relatively linear stealth game. The reason for this is the lack of weapons, ammunition and objects. Due to acute shortage of ammunition you Think about twice if their opponent shoots, off by stealth kill or simply bypasses. The latter is always the best solution to get enough items for an emergency to have. Will you but suddenly it discovered by some infected and have to shoot, so are all those who have lost their live, with equal tightened. So you have to decide exactly how you going.
In theory, you are however some objects such as knives, nail bombs or Molotov cocktails. This you have to assemble but only from objects. These you can find everywhere and nowhere. It can be above all that, but again, there is a chronic shortage. At the same time you can also upgrade weapons with these objects. Again, you have to get so again in all possible areas to decide. Improve melee weapon, although they will go broke and without knife? Better a Medi-Kit or a Molotov cocktail?
Accompanied by that is different enemy types that require different approach.
The AI seemed altogether really succeeded. People flank you, take cover and talk away. Runner-Infected can see you. They can be strangled by stealth kill or beat up unarmed.
Clicker-Infected can not see you, but only by a "sonar" sound, similar to a bat, perceive. If you really make a mistake and give no sound from you, you may very well slip past them. Will, however, discovered her these really hard nuts, because this can not be done in fistfight. Stealth kills are possible only with knives.
As enemies occur en masse is The Last of Us not necessarily simple game. You have to take your time and plan your approach. Are you trying just quickly get through somewhere, which is potentially lethal.
The crafting takes place in real time in Übrigem. That you should do so only in places where you are really sure. Or do you have to get quickly to hurry because suddenly opponents can attack.
This whole package makes for a really great game experience. Just like in the story just fit all the elements together perfectly. Nothing seemed fake or out of place. It everything is just right!
Other:
What I found a bit annoying was that the accompanying characters occasionally could rumtanzen front opponents without them responded. Opponents respond only to oneself and only when one was discovered on the other. A little unpleasant the whole works precisely when the AI does not quite work perfectly and the attendant right under the noses of the enemy long run to take cover and this simply does not notice.
However, this does not happen often and is really criticism at very, very high level.
Multiplayer:
The multiplayer is the signature style of the multiplayer of Uncharted 3 combined with the gameplay elements from The Last of Us, in a very interesting setting.
Your first you join a faction, for whom you fight. Starting point is that you have to survive 12 weeks because by then a convoy reached your camp. So you can survive 12 weeks you have for your group, in the game "Klan" (Yes, with K) called collect. You'll find them in the match. The individual modes are nothing special. Two pieces there are in number. A sort of team deathmatch and a mode where each player has only one life. On these maps, and by each kill you get a variety of resources. Including the food for your clan, or technique parts for buying upgrades, or resources for certain items. Etc. grenades ye also here not from the beginning. Objects of grenades over medikits to upgrades for melee weapons have to be made as in single player. Also in real time. The resources you will find here return to the pitch.
As in the single-player is a general item and ammunition poverty is also available in multiplayer. So you are sneaking much on here as well.
A match corresponds to a day. After 12 weeks you get a score for a ranking, depending on how well you've taken care of your clan at the latest. The better you are, the greater the Klan. The bigger it is, the better you have to be, because more food is required. Fails to her, then dies your group and it's over.
Funny Feature: You can connect the game with your Facebook account. The name of the clan members are then to names of people from your friends list. In the lobby, then coming messages from "John Doe goes fishing" because, "Pat Sample wife is sick" and such. This has no deeper meaning, the whole thing but consistent.
The multiplayer offers so basically known modes, takes place through the issue with the clans and the stealthigen gameplay significantly unlike other games. In my opinion much better.
Does the conclusion:
A revolution is The Last of Us in my eyes not. It's hardly something really new. However, it takes all sorts of features, perfected this and adds that in a near-perfect overall picture.
Simply right here almost everything. A revolution? No. The best game of this generation? In my opinion, yes!
I would give the game also 10 stars. Very strong buy recommendation!
