The Big Spliff - "The Division Bell Part Two"

A new Pink Floyd - album releases with me at first no particular expectations anymore. In the early 70s, yes, because I appreciate the band because of their experimental boldness, the psychedelic sounds, which for that time brilliant and bombastic sound, the stunning drama and the musical mix of rock and progressive music and learned to love. The ebbed with increasing preference for blues and hard rock from something later. Not always I was able to endure "Floyd'sche Gesäusel".

To date, in my musical gems like "Meddle" or "Wish You Were Here" naturally entrenched musical milestones. I am thinking also the early works such. B. "A Saucerful Of Secrets" and the slightly odd but successful album "Obscured By Clouds" from 1972.

Thus, enthusiasm, but also the unfounded massacre, considering the publication of this new album fail here for me in place. Long before been in specialized magazines, even in the daily press, the music and the fans interested reader explained sufficiently to what it is at "the endless river". Therefore, it is pointless to go into this yet.

Worth mentioning is therefore for me that shortly after the date of publication of "The Endless River" nearly 400 reviews on Amazon were already recorded. That's amazing ... But the work still does not hit like a bomb. The album apparently strongly polarized. What I can not understand. From sheer enthusiasm to bitter insults and more. Whether in many predominantly as a "one-liners" "written comments, regardless of whether" 5 stars "or even with one, musicianship underlies with, I doubt it. In any case, many of these statements are not worthy to be called review.

For me, produced "The Endless River" first very mixed feelings. Without the music to know I rejected in advance the cover - from motif, as the first publications appeared. Does one think purely because? I thought it was just bland, interchangeable and artistically uninteresting. Rather something for "Kitsch Poster-corner" ...

The decision to have to this album really is not set now was almost like. Then I heard excerpts of previously released songs "Louder Than Words" sometime in mid-October on the radio. Enthusiasm but not turned in to me. Somehow intuitively came on immediately comparisons to album "The Division Bell", which unlike "A Momentary Lapse Of Reason" (1987) does not consistently liked and had fallen produced partially arg poppy and ironed.

Still I was able to keep a music lover, however, unfortunately not. Out of sheer curiosity, I put me now "The Endless River" to without being too set great expectations for the day.

So I went for a long time again in the musical cosmos of Pink Floyd and found pleasant that throughout much "Pink Floyd-Feeling" was built with very high recognition value in the music. And that obviously still very much attention to detail and to the sound of "time" in the two remaining musicians of Pink Floyd, David Gilmour and Nick Mason, stuck must ...

There are no newly written songs. But the existing old recordings have been re-recorded. And very professional. David Gilmour and Nick Mason have, if I may own statements believed, even added new songs within the last year. They did that in my view very well.

Who does not Pink Floyd perceives here, or at least can not respect recognizing that it is produced here by quality, sound very "highendig" coordinated and highly listenable instrumental music acts who can actually Pink Floyd have never liked or understood. Many songs or sequences on albums by Pink Floyd were already purely instrumental.

Also typical is the song structure. Basically, it involves only four pieces, which are divided into several "chapters". This gives the album a progressive touch and makes it more exciting than boring.

Since the whole CD packaging is still advised very high, the work should be necessarily in any music collection. Assuming you still have a, like me. Namely I attach great importance to my baby and would never switch to sonically inferior ribbed laptop music data or MP3 files. You are sonically unacceptable.

So sound lovers can even be advised to buy "The Endless River" in the vinyl version. As long as there are those ... who can do without DVD or Bluray and Co., the CD receives however currently unbeatable. Whoever still complained here, the is not be helped.
