The eternal problem of second album

I just got the vinyl. It is very good but could do better. After the successful revival Southern -the first lp in studio and live full of discoveries and energy- should free themselves by offering innovative sth ds writing music while keeping in mind. Too many influences from Lynyrd, Doobie Brothers. ... There was even a tad Eagles at their worst time and I thought I unfortunately hear the Status Quo (Black Album which I forgot the title and only about drinking) and they need that s 'deviate from deuce it !!!!!
4 stars because there has potential .... hoping they do not take the melon !!!!!
