Here are some pros and cons:
+ Super compact, light, elegant, yet quality design.
+ Great capacitive touchscreen, the inferior one smartphone in almost nothing.
+ Well-functioning voice control.
- When speeding, there is no audible warning.
- The TMC service is actually unusable
(He points to a traffic jam or not, if one is already there;
It shows a jam, where a long time is no more), but this of course depends on the system.
- Here is the evaluation of the received messages via FM was worse than useless:
A red icon if somewhere on a long journey a jam.
Additional info just by tweaking the display. Voice Control: None !!!
Now, after 3 years of intensive and innovative development of the company Garmin,
a careful evaluation of the not to just existing customer feedback tacitly assumed,
I wanted to give pleasure and give me a GPS upgrade again.
Here made me the "free" Smartphone Link of 3597LMT curious, the yes transmits traffic and even speed camera radar warnings in real-time to the device.
The also now repaired acoustic warning of speeding among other praises it seemed worth to undergo the device closer consideration.
Unfortunately, neither the PDF manual nor the equipment simulation on the Garmin website provides a complete overview of the functional scope. So unpacked and tested:
Here the pros and cons:
++ The device makes a valued and stable impression.
++ The voice control and touch screen respond delay-free, which is very pleasant anmutet especially in the voice control.
++ The Konnektierung to the car mount via solenoid makes a good impression, even if the magnet is so strong that a smooth docking is hardly possible.
++ The acoustic warning Geschw.überschreitung is available but ...
++ The Smartphone Link may be potentially added value, but ....
- The audible warning can not be separated from "Anna" is on or off.
I know no one who "Anna" can switched long term.
To follow all the other useful warning tones are useless!
(Sometimes I wonder if even a Garmin Developer is on its way with its own products !!!
How blööööööd can be implemented a feature ??? ).
- The audible warning can not be configured.
You secretes exactly when exceeding the maximum permissible. Speed. A tone from which then become permanent at this threshold is exceeded at a peep show.
How blööööd can be implemented a feature ???
Least a tolerance threshold of 10% should be configurable, even if Garmin obviously puts on very purist MMI value!
(One could interpret as a disenfranchisement of the customer).
- The "free Smartphone Link" I unfortunately can no longer test because it is not as free as a "LMT (raffic)" may suggest at first glance.
For the "real-time traffic data" (on account of which I have actually purchased the product) as well as for the radar warning information is namely respectively 20, - to shell out,
what with so already high price with me a pain threshold lies beyond.
It was only after some effort I had to invest in Internet search, I found the costs of these services mandatory confirmed.
Merely the mention unusable TMCPro service is part of the "LMT (raffic)" package.
The lack of transparency of this information has a certain significance for me ;-)
- It is about twice as heavy as my 3790, making it unsuitable for air travel.
(For heat-related suction cup detachments in summer damage can be expected, during my 3790 just go from the dashboard down the cord.
I'm using a dashboard-Plate. On the windscreen, this may be less critical).
- The mini USB connector is positioned so that the unit is in PC mode is available on the connector and the cable burdened unnecessarily.
Here the functionality of the design is different. For me, a NOGO, but that's a matter of taste.
- In my first and only trip to work the firmware is stuck in the language menu. A reboot was necessary.
- If a branch which culminated in a tunnel on the left, I drove right parallel to this tunnel on. The unit switched to night vision, and assumed that I'm in the tunnel on the way
(Such behavior I would the early days of GPS era locate (GPS V, etc.)).
I have only been astonished ------> "The Garmin Premium flagship".
Since the Nerd pushes me repeatedly on classics: Banana Software -> it matures at the customer.
Although in my experience such errors be corrected Garmin ultimately, nevertheless I have to ask,
why after so many generations of devices such errors only occur with a virtually unchanged firmware base at the customer ???
Here I discover parallels to a world-renowned software company, to create a really good product whose efforts,
is obviously behind other priorities difficult to detect.
Who believes to discover a certain emotional bias in these comments ......
.... Who has not so wrong !!!
Conclusion:
All in all, the 3597LMT worked with value and is sure to iron out the discrepancies described his money worth.
But this time I'll go through another phase of the beta FW. I'll send it back.
For most of the criticisms to Garmin the motto proves true in my experience: It's not a bug, it's a feature.
Suggestions for improvement are considered not in current FW, but at best in future devices.
So now I'm a (former) owner finally got rid of many outdoor and road-navigation systems from Garmin my frustrations times ;-)
