Based on the reviews of the latest software version (7.5.0) has been downloaded from the manufacturer of the box first. The CD I have, although already Version 7.4.0 was on, put away.
Simultaneously, the Harmony One placed on the dock and loaded for the first time.
Installation of the software ran under XP, contrary to some experience with old software versions, without problems. After about 2 hours I could then but no longer wait and started programming. Disturbing I find that you have to create an account and install works only with Internet connection. Supposedly our data are safe everywhere, but each time I enter my data, the worse is the feeling. How do I know that this data will not be evaluated for analysis? It's obvious that the number of available devices can be very interesting for manufacturers.
This then led to the Punkeabzug.
Now for programming:
My devices: 2 satellite receivers (no-name), a DVD disk recorder (Aldi), a Cinema System (magnate), the TV (Sony) and the stereo system (X4-Tech).
All devices were known, but I had a satellite receiver but a manual programming using the existing remote control must perform (Palcom DSL 4). But that was quite fast at the 2nd attempt.
The Activities have been programmed quickly, but you can forget the 30 minute of the instructions safely. For me the fun lasted about 2.5 hours, which, given the 4 - was 15 hours out of the reviews but relatively quickly. Had I already adjusted to a whole afternoon.
Programmed Now a few sequences and then combines them. These I use to enter the PIN of Premiere. This then goes with a Taastendruck.
Unfortunately I have not found any suitable logos of TV stations to download, so the favorites were postponed.
Operation:
The remote control is relatively heavy, but fits comfortably in your hand. The keys respond well, the touch screen is very easy to operate (also by the confirmation tone). However, my wife wipes it regularly to remove the fingerprints.
The processing makes a solid impression.
For whom is this remote control is capable:
1. PC and DSL is a must
2. Time to Bring already
3. In order to program one should know how the various devices are connected.
4. Basic knowledge about the behavior of SCART connections makes sense in order to avoid a lengthy Try
5. Dealing with the remote preprogrammed is easy.
To whom does the Harmony One is not suitable:
1. Plug & Play specialists
2. hoarders: Since the remote control must be in the dock for loading regularly, you should put aside this evening there.
3. Households without DSL (Is there still?)
4. People with paranoia and privacy advocates (I count myself actually also ...)
Conclusion: Good remote control and an alternative to the cheap products from the electronics discounter. Quite expensive, but for the first time after programming a universal remote I have really set the originals in the closet.
