The early '90s a lot of jazz samples were used in Hip Hop, do people like A Tribe Called Quest or De La Soul and the associated Native Tongue movement very popular to this day. Guru, 50% of the group Gang Starr, ventured on an experiment that left it not only with samples, but completely omitted beats and other electrical tools and relies on acoustic jazz instruments. To make it short: It was a real stroke of genius, or rather a masterpiece! Really every song without end grooving. No matter what tools are used, Guru and his backup singers harmonize perfectly with them always. The most well-known hit of this album is probably "Loungin '", in which Guru's casual Rhymes with it's smooth voice that is made for this Abum, form a magnificent unit with the trumpets and the piano of jazz legend Donald Byrd. A real treat is the love song "When You're Near", back is something in which guru and singer N'Dea Davenport the bulk of leaves, which sounds very great. Slightly faster, yet wonderfully chilling is "No Time To Play". The guitar instrumental comes from Ronny Jordan, which is tailor-made for guru's super flow and the vocals of DC Lee. My favorite song among all these hits is "Take A Look (At Yourself)". Here you get a fantastic Vibraphone instrumental that one immediately goes into the joints and marrow, and that you simply do not get out of your head. These kicks Guru his usual deep and transparent verses. Simply amazing! Again something dignified is "Trust Me". Here singer N'Dea Davenport is represented at Guru's side again and supported him with another very successful presentation. A little surprise for me is the presence of France's best rapper MC Solaar as collaborations of Americans and Europeans do not happen too often.
