Customer Review

Interact with artists to make them speak eloquently of their art is not given to everyone, even more when it comes to filmmakers. Michel Ciment gathered here a large number of interviews conducted in recent decades, which are each time exciting and ultimately provide a bountiful array of contemporary cinema's condition. These interviews are more valuable than the word has sometimes been rare (eg one of the few interviews Terrence Malick, given at Badlands), the filmmakers were interviewed at the beginning of their career or the first festivals where they appeared (eg Andrei Tarkovsky's Andrei Rublev at the time of, Wong Kar-Wai and Jane Campion), that maintenance is particularly revealing (eg John Cassavetes) and the filmmaker interviewed is not revered by the interviewer (ex: Jean-Luc Godard, here asked about the film Stories). A must read, these interviews also show a profit when we get to see some films when they emerged in theaters, on television or on DVD.

Note, also by Stock, the book emerged in one of the two books of talks on Elia Kazan and Joseph Losey: Kazan, Losey: Final Edition.

And the balance of this book, this time dedicated solely to American filmmakers he interviewed over the past four decades (in which are not included talks like Cassavetes and Malick already published here): An American Renaissance .
