Clausewitz does not pass for an easy author rightly especially as his immortal work is unfinished and appears to have been being rewritten when he died. Nevertheless: Clausewitz laid the terms of the debate about the nature of war and its impact on society, with the famous phrase that "war is the continuation of politics by other means". It has deeply influenced all the schools of thought of the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, starting with the Marxists and even Anglo-Saxon liberals.
Today, to think of war, we can not ignore Clausewitz. It is positioned in relation to it, simply. Whether one is interested in the history, philosophy of power or sociology, we can not ignore Clausewitz.
