WQHD monitors were too expensive with 400+. One floor below, I quickly found that there is still a wide price range 24 to 27 inches at the moment (Feb 2014). 27 inches are hardly under 200, 24 inch you get but for less than 130. Of course, one must at the cheaper 24-inch monitors to cut back, but to me the difference in price was ultimately too big, so I dealt with 24 inch wheels. Apart from the 27-inch monitor has not impressed me, so I was looking for high-quality 24 inch models.
Why I have chosen for the U2414H?
Quite simply, it is for me right now in this price range, the monitor, where you have to make any compromises. What most impressed me the power consumption. Dell is typically at 16W, in a review at TFTcentral (0% brightness) were between 8W - 24W (100% brightness) measured. By using a number of years, one can at least partially refinance the monitor so the power consumption. With my 35% brightness I'm so at a rate of 14,4W. For me, an absolute peak for a monitor of this size.
Then there are the connections:
- DisplayPort 1.2a
- Mini DisplayPort
- 2x HDMI (MHL compatible)
- DisplayPort out
- (!) 4x USB 3.0 ports (1x USB 3.0 upstream port, so you can monitor the devices via USB Charging)
Here you can of course the lack of DVI, and VGA port criticize, but leave the existing connections to numerous uses.
The Use:
Construction and connection of the monitor were without any problems. The monitor will not budge in the holder and can be easily readjusted with 2 hands yet. The monitor is not only adjustable in height, but also the sides and in the tilt. By the pivot function can also be 180% turn him so. The picture itself is absolutely great and the display is evenly illuminated. The only shortcoming (see review at PC screen) that is the bottom left illuminated slightly stronger in the representation of black images as the rest of the screen. Otherwise, as already noted, the image and color reproduction is fine. The control buttons are incidentally driven via touch. This works not only very good, also looks great. A white light under the power button indicates whether the monitor is turned on.
(More) positive characteristics of the monitor:
- The monitor is very thin at the edges and in the use are actually indicated as narrow as in the pictures.
- High-quality processing
- Processed cable management in the rack
- Many connections
- Nice pic
- Very low power consumption
Negative characteristics:
- No VGA and DVI port
- Representation of black is not 100% perfect
As you can probably already read out I am absolutely delighted with the monitor and the two negative points are whining at a high level. The P2414H and the E2414H Dell has 2 less expensive 24-inch model in the range, but you have more or less in both compromise with comparison. I would, for example, again the 40-50 more for the U2414H spend compared to the well also very good P2414H, already due to the connections and power consumption. The design is ultimately a matter of taste.
Small side note:
For the technically minded, I recommend the aforementioned Reviews in TFTcentral and PC screen, in which the monitor cuts quite well. There are, of course, not the monitor, which can operate everything (Gaming, Office, TV / Movie function) to 100%. However, this monitor provides this balancing act relatively well.
Conclusion:
Monitor the price paid of 250 would be worth it to me again. The negative points mentioned (if they are as such ever perceives) do not bother me. I highly recommend this monitor only warmly.
