Wake the Dogs (Limited Deluxe Version digipack) (Audio CD)

Customer Review

After of "The Doctors" the first highlight of 2012 was "well", followed by "Wake The Dogs" the "Donots" Today the second. After repeated listening to the latest work of the guys from "Ibbtown Rock City" to good conscience can be stated:

Then there is something better to do than "The Doctors" to hear - namely, "Wake The Dogs" to throw in the CD player!

The great predecessor, "The Long Way Home", was topped again with the new album. Anyone looking for a song that falls negative, will be disappointed. Overall, it is in the "Donots" in the last time a continuous increase festellen, despite the fact that since "Coma Chameleon" depending only two years passed between the LPs - and in which the "Donots" have not made as pause, but the entire Republic Live brought to Pogen. What will await us in 2014 brilliant, I dare not hope. Now back to "Wake The Dogs".

The album with the Red Cover convinced first of all by its stylish design. The flashy red drops in each bay immediately catches the eye and creates attention. The booklet includes besides the lyrics also photos of the band members and is held to match the music style.

Already during unpacking you have so feel good - actually the perfect moment for an album to expectations completely disappointing and flopping. But far from it! The guys from Ibbenbüren show up at their best and take care of the immediate desire umherzuspringen in rooms and pogo. Wait addition punk songs like "Born a Wolf" both quieter ("Come Away With Me"; "Solid Gold") and reflective songs on the handset while "Control" strained the speakers on Expressed and CD player already to stop is, although you still want to shoot much much louder. Particularly impressed the diversity of each song, but the album does not look like a random combination of various those ragtag tracks. Everything has its place, fit together, and acts around.
(For a detailed song-by-song review follows below).

The skill with which the "Donots" use their instruments, everyone knows who the guys once experienced live. This is clear once again on this record. Me as a guitar player falls here just Guido on which his truly outstanding qualities shows in some songs.

After on "The Long Way Home" many polyphonic parts were already represented, use the "Donots" even on the followers once again from her five-strong band Instrumentation. The resulting fat sound of voices is a style element which knowledge (eg in "You Got It") to use the rocker from the Münsterland region with a lot of finesse. (Partial) polyphonic choruses like "Wake The Dogs" or "Do not Ever Look Down" push the great songs even more.

Another fascinating aspect is the many tracks that have the potential to a true anthem. Here is particularly mention "Chasing the Sky".

The bonus DVD:
On the bonus DVD is an approximately 25-minute video takes on the "Donots" eight songs from the new album live in the studio performing. Although the Deluxe Edition costs a little more than the standard edition, it is recommended all - it shows up over and over again why the "Donots" live even better than on record. Some parts that know to please not quite the first time you listen to the CD, are on the bonus DVD suddenly just as good as the rest of the album (eg, the verses from "Control"). We wanted to after listening to the album like nothing better than to pogen Fascinating country in the mosh pit to the Donots, this desire for the DVD was almost unbearable.

Song-by-song:

-> "Wake The Dogs"
Schicker opener, already went in publishing catchy. The text is used to good ("Wake The Dogs, cause that's our job and we'll knock knock knock"). And even if one wakes up with this song on the record rather no dogs: Live rock "Wake The Dogs" skin from the bones! As the "Donots" some of their new songs presented on the short tour in late 2011, this was the song that I like best (and most other concert-goers). On the album he is unfortunately over not quite as good, therefore
7.5 / 10th

-> "Into the Grey"
Holla - something completely new from the Donots. And additionally simply brilliant. The seafaring touch comes at the first hearing is over, leads now to even the lyrics in mind, you get in this song goosebumps. Bright Lights.
9/10

-> "Come Away With Me"
The quietest and poppigste song on the album. As you know it from the Donots, the songs are "massentauglicheren" released as a single, the harder songs stay back often. The course is generally understood as the band can achieve even more attention, on the other hand but also a shame as great songs like "Born a Wolf" only available to the fans made. All in all this is, of course, do not detract from this great song - it stands still miles away from the rest of tooting from forming today's pop music. Because this song sounds like you, that it was written with heart. The strings at the end of the song round the whole perfectly. Again, the lyrics are again emphasized ("Take me back to square one, ride right into the sun") - goosebumps! A word to the video of the single, which can be seen on Youtube, worth, this is absolutely great and has a lot more clicks!

-> "You're so Yesterday"
In my opinion, the best song on the album. Simply refreshingly different. This shows once again how versatile Ingo Donot and co. are. Even without fat guitar sounds they are able to write such a great piece, the rhythm is not simply passed out of my head.
10/10

-> "Do not Ever Look Down"
After three highlights a somewhat "more ordinary" song, which still manages to cause toe-tapping. Beautiful drum beat. Once again "must" to highlight the text to be particularly under-the-skin-going ("So dive right into the clouds, and never ever look down, do not let your feet, touch the ground").
7/10

-> "Born a Wolf"
Typical Guido song. Both Knollmann brothers complement each other as in "Dead Man Walking" more than Prima and provide surprising and intriguing turns. A real-voiced song that you immediately associated with Guido.
9/10

-> "Control"
The only weak point of the song is, as already mentioned above, the verse, which do not want to completely satisfied with on board. Maybe I just need to hear more than 3/4 times the song. The chorus, however, is a gem. Synthesizer are always a bone of contention, but the one they fit quite well into the context ("It's getting out of control"), on the other hand it is not so that the "Donots" would be to "depech Mode" became (since - apart from the fact that the Song still powerful rock and synthesizers are of course used only as a support for the electric guitar - it remains on the record in this song with a synthesizer note). Why should the "Ibbtown-Rockers" not even allowed to try around a bit?
7.5 / 10

-> "Solid Gold"
The next rather quiet song, which remains instantly remembered by the great chorus. Especially in this song comes Ingos unique voice over particularly well. Has potential for anthem.
8/10

-> "You Got It"
At first listen directly in love. Fantastic melody! Plus Guidos hoarse voice - perfect combination. The text gives the whole then the icing ("You gotta stay up with me, singing out of key, pissing the night away, if I do not sleep, nobody sleeps, Bring on the Light of Day"). Compete with "You're so Yesterday" for the title of the best songs on the album.
10/10

-> "I Do not Wanna Wake Up"
Beautiful song, not a highlight but still a pleasing rhythm. Live determines a good song to Pogen.
7/10

-> "Chasing the Sky"
The next hymn, both verse and chorus. The guitar I really like (the intro and verse riff and the Interlude). Text as always super.
8/10

-> "All You Ever Wanted"
Slowly a missing words - again a great song. Does that sound as not to? ;-) Only missing here still the ultimate kick, the icing on the cake.
8.5 / 10

-> "Manifesto"
Reminiscent initially a bit like "Blink-182", but it turns out very quickly that the song is a lot deeper than "Blink" have ever managed. You have to hear the song a few times - and especially dealing in detail with the Lyrics! Rarely have I me after studying a song text as "tired" and felt thoughtfully. Fascinating what happened to the guys now.
9/10

-> "So Long"
The perfect ending to this great album. That's all there is to it. Guest singer Frank Turner fits perfectly into the structure.
8/10

Ingo, Guido, Alex, Jan-Dirk and Eike have done it again: A really huge album.
Also in the near future, fans will have a lot of fun at the "DONOTS"!
