Customer Review

"There's one in every crowd" - the correct title - was published in 1975 as a follow-up project of the successful and highly successful album "461 Ocean Boulevard" and was greeted by the press sometimes scathing criticism. Not without reason, because not a single song rises to the level of its predecessor zoom, the recording quality is significantly weaker (the CD sounds more dynamic than at the time the LP), the joy of playing a whole slowed down and the compilation of works - especially in the former first LP page (No. 1-5.) - very inconsistent. Especially Clapton's version of the Traditionals "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" looks so pale and uninspired heruntergenudelt that one would have to ask for sufficient existing malice smooth, how serious it really was him with his religious references at that time. Also advised the particularly weak are therefore coming in then fashionable reggae rhythm "Do not Blame Me" and here completely unemotional put forward Mary McCrary number "Singin 'the Blues".
Thus, it has then also, as on virtually every other Clapton album because there are also here the one or other useful Song. In this case, almost highlights include two slow blues numbers, namely the version of Elmore James composition "The Sky Is Crying" and written by Clapton himself "Better Make It Through Today". Appear also still passable to good factor "Little Rachel" (as a slightly thinner rehash of "Willy And The Hand Jive") and the last three numbers of which "High" suit me and the finale of "Opposites" right.
So bottom line, a rather middling album that although no mastermind, for long stretches good average with occasional weaknesses and provides the safe is not one law for the front line of Clapton outputs. It put forward with more empathy standards with Christian content Clapton (and this album) would certainly have been quite good.
