This is the future! And a to-do list for Migration in notebooks

The acceleration of the whole system is so immense that you afterwards wonders how such a thing as an Ancient mechanical hard drive is still installed (and I had previously been a quick HDD with 7200 rpm!). After all, one notices after migrating from HDD to SSD, the processor (in my case an Intel Core i7 in a Fujitsu LifeBook E780) has turned thumbs most of the time and just waiting for the hard disk had. Although my system only SATA II and thus the hard disk "only" 250 MB / sec for reading and writing, the effect is enormous and I do not want to know how it would be at twice as fast SATA III (the Samsung 840 would in fact up to 540 MB / sec read and up to 330 MB / sec writing of technical ability).

Suddenly everything flutscht problems and wait in any system processes belongs to the past. The work on the computer seems much less effort and before restarting the system you have no inhibitions. Even if many programs are open parallel as in my case, the downloading or re-booting takes only a short time (several minutes in advance, because I have made it my well considered!). Updates, virus scans and similar maintenance work done and voila, no longer require a consideration of what is supposed to do in the meantime.

The money is well invested for those who sit at the computer and professionally simply want to quickly work with it without waiting for anything. Windows has an overall much more fluid impression "swallowed" the hard drive is no longer in read-intensive operations (eg if two applications simultaneously many disk accesses have). My notebook was now finally completely portable, since I can not even carry any when fully active hard drive - there are no mechanical parts more that would be sensitive to vibration or change of position! There used on such occasions every now and then a blue screen when the vibration protection to Festplattenarm briefly retired in the middle of the work.

Supplement 11.09.2013, after 11 months of experience: from HDD to upgrade to SSD was the best decision I've ever met in computers. It still everything works properly and the speed is simply gorgeous. No longer do I wait for the computer, but the computer is waiting for me. It is supposed to be well, right?

Now in detail for Migration, which I have a lot of research in advance and has therefore then also worked without problems. Who Acronis True Image version 11 and 12, is finely out, because they have full support for SSDs (to say, the SSD is suitable for their different storage architecture also formatted differently, in technical jargon called Alignment).

Here is my To-Do list (existing Windows 7 with all programs for two years running on a HDD, should be transferred unchanged to the SSD):

1: check in to Windows in the Computer Management / Disk Management as the HDD is partitioned (. Eg including the hidden recovery partition on Win7), ie drive letter, sizes and attributes (primary, active, logic), this note (total size and used space) ; off current System services such as Nonstop Backup Acronis, delete junk data (reduces the amount of data to be transmitted)
2: Expression of pages "connect drive" from the Acronis Manual PDF on "Restore" and (because when the going gets tough, can no longer look in the computer!)
3: "Verify Backup" full backup of the entire hard drive to an external hard drive via the Start CD of Acronis True Image 12, including the option (Backup and verification not run under Windows to make sure that the subsequent restore also works that yes necessarily have to take place under the system environment of Acronis Boot CD)
4: HDD off and SSD installed (previously at a radiator electrostatically discharged!), Acronis Insert boot CD and restart computer, while the same in the BIOS (usually pressing F2) to see if the SSD has been identified and for the hard disk mode Enable AHCI
5: Select the Acronis boot interface of CD under "Extras" "connect drive" option and the new hard disk partition (possibly with an empty space before C: for the hidden recovery partition from Windows 7), on the occasion, you can also the partitions other sizes give as on the old HDD (only not less as used space!)
Will now restore to the instructions of the Acronis Manual (for the expression, you can advance not remember every detail!), All partitions but not the MBR (which was "Connecting the Drive" for newly created and needs only in exceptional cases restored: 6 , see manual); Acronis formatted automatically the new SSD to their own, physically necessary points of view, so unlike an HDD!
7: This is so cool! Remove the external hard disk drive, Acronis CD out there and see first start Windows in no time! If necessary, with the Disk Management tool (see above) correct nor incorrect drive letter of individual partitions and then adjust everything by hand, which is required for an SSD-specific handling of Windows (when reinstalling Win the would automatically): disabling hibernation, Windows System Protection (System Restore ), indexing, Windows Search, disk defragmentation; Enable TRIM; Disable disable prefetch, Superfetch, ReadyBoost, and boot time defragmentation, Shock Sensor Utility for HDD (if available in notebooks) or uninstall, "never off" in power settings for the HDD Setting; Acronis Nonstop Backup reenable.
