Once set up, the lighting quality has nothing to do with what it was: the brightness is better distributed (more light rings alternating with dark areas, typical of Maglite) and light well more white (no yellow cast / orange). And, of course, power is (very!) Significantly higher.
Only downside: turn the lamp head allows to focus more or less the beam (which has little interest in my opinion), but not to vary the power itself. Excellent if you need a strong light, less when we just need a little light in the middle of the night without waking anyone around ...
However, perfect in "candle", orienting the lamp to a ceiling: any room, even good size, will instantly illuminated.
In short: if you want to revive an old Maglite that drags the bottom of a drawer since the advent of LED lamps, please.
