First impressions:
After a bombastic intro with brilliant graphics Lara Croft is stranded on an island somewhere in the so-called Dragon Triangle. Then it's already going the same! "Ouch" "That hurt," and "Holy shit ..." are just in the first few minutes, the records that are the players themselves. Placed completely on his own now Lara explores the island. Unfortunately flies the "Survival" image of the game pretty quickly, because the hunting of animals applied on a tutorial for using a weapon. The bow Lara not nutmegs also itself, but finds him unceremoniously at a corpse. Fortunately, the corresponding arrows are everywhere en masse. The gameplay itself:
The aim now is to explore in search of Lara's friends who are stranded with her on the island said Eiland. Early on, unfortunately, it turns out that the developers have designed the game to backtracking. The Story:
Especially in the previous Tomb Raider games (ie to part 5) a story was indeed present somewhere, but no one has really interested. What mattered were the great mystery fordernen, the Fre mix of climbing and firefights and the exploration of (despite the now dusty graphics) lovingly designed level. In latest adventure one has tried to bring in a lot more depth story, which would have been a good idea in itself, but if you have implemented it only makes sense. To avoid giving away too much here the short form: sect revered former deity (Sun Queen) and wants to revive this. Add to this mysterious storms that already have run aground off the island for ages ships. Plus there are for the veracity of the background information, as it has indeed been Sonnenkönigin Himiko and her "country" Yamatai, or interpret it finds. Personally, I liked the story, although quite good, but the underlying mysticism came much too short. Since you are constantly fighting against the cult members, comes to no sentiment, actually being on a mysterious and fabled island. Was not sensible thought through then also because certain issues that arise particularly towards the end of the game, will not be finally resolved. Too bad, because more potential would have been inside.

The Characters:
In my opinion one of the greatest weaknesses of the game. The crew members and friends of Lara wooden signs and because it can hardly be seen growing a none of them really so fond. Most likely still Laras friend Sam and the little strong Jonah. With the rest I could do anything, everyone was somehow unappealing. That's a shame, because this does not touch the one hand, heroically set itself in scene of death of individual characters, unfortunately. Lara Croft as the main character:
Although Lara looks better than ever, but both moderately weak character drawn and presented unrealistic. THAT would have been Survival! If Lara does not carry high-tech weapons ala Mass Effect or Halo to life energy should not regenerate! Point! Also weak is what Lara is on its own. It sounds in any situation bored anyway and commented everything with indifference, as if everything was normal around them. Emotion is hard to find; Places where Lara Croft is located in a cave by the fire and starts to cry in despair, the players do not get to see. Neither anger or hatred against the fanatical sect members. This is sometimes because of the rather less successful linguistic performance of Nora Tschirner. But in order to the next point ...

The AI ​​and the setting:

Lara's "gadgets" and "challenges"
As in any Tomb Raider game Lara has in addition to a regular arsenal of course here special gadgets. These are part of something unrealistic that one wonders what have been thinking the developers. Example: You get a kind of cable. Thus one can go against gravity on ropes UP ?! Where is the logic? Furthermore, these gadgets enable access to certain areas. But instead of big rewards, there are mostly in literally just scrap, with which you can pimp weapons, however, which in turn is a plus point of the game. Finally, a word about the challenges. Each area has its own "Challenge", such as "Destroy all the 10 mines" or "Burn all 4 Banner". Creative is different and because unmotivierend I strictly played the story as I saw no sense in the challenges. Interesting is everywhere scattered finds and diaries, which here is sometimes very questionable, as the books come to their respective location. (They are part of Lara's friends ... but they were never in the localities of Books)

Conclusion:
Tomb Raider in 2013 is not a bad game for me. However, not very good. Let's call it satisfactory to good. (Hence 3 stars ... who wants to think 3 1/2) to strong are the action sequences and light and rarely are the puzzles. For undemanding climbing sequences. Especially the survival approach was much too weak implemented. I would have been personally for the original concept where Lara as sole survivor stranded on the island and piece by piece must build their tools. And with grotesque creatures as enemies and not just humans. (Google it again to "Tomb Raider Origins enemy" and watch the designs of the original opponent) So unfortunately the game gambled a lot of potential, because supernatural enemies Raider games were already members of Tomb available. So why not here, especially where you yet had the concepts for it. Only towards the end of Tomb Raider is again interesting and I wished that more parts in Spielso would have been like the end, since more of the mystical aspect in the foreground. Unfortunately, it was then, just where it was interesting over. Too bad I find it personally that many 5-star reviewers Tomb Raider View as grandiose action shooter and therefore give the 5 stars.
